Then again one could observe that NLV was about the fastest growing city in the US and made a set of manuevers to capably deal with that growth. Then it stopped and in fact heavily reversed. That would be a difficult thing for any city to project.

If Carolyn Goodman doesn't let go of that pie-in-the-sky Cordish Company Arena for Symphony Park, and they go ahead with backing it with $187M in city-back bonds, and that unreceptive $50M tax on businesses downtown, Las Vegas may join NLV some day! I know who's really on fire about this project: her husband Oscar!

If she really wants to bring downtown into the 21st Century, then at least build a streetcar system. Light rail, forget that idea, Goodman is too short-sighted for something like that, doesn't even show up on her radar screen until she happens to talk to someone who just rode the light rail lines in Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Portland, Denver, Dallas and a host of other cities, and asks her: When?

Even streetcar systems are being added across the country, and even little old Tucson has one now!

^^^^^....and who is going to pay for all that infrastructure? Local officials cannot even extend the monorail to the airport and Downtown Vegas. Let's see first if locals and tourists can pay up the operating costs and make a little money for the monorail when it gets extended to the airport and Downtown Vegas. Rail lines, monorails, light rails..... are heavily subsidized by government everywhere. Can Clark County and the State of Nevada afford it without asking for more TAXES from RESIDENTS and VISITORS.

My take: Run, don't walk from NLV.

North Las Vegas really need to step it up. They cannot rely on the rest of Clark County to bail them out. As it is now North Las Vegas and Las Vegas are sharing jail services. Local officials are touting it can save both cities funds but we all know why!! They are thinking of more ways to combine services for both cities. The bottom line other taxpayers from other cities and other parts of the county will just foot the bill for North Las Vegas who has a revenue shortfall, not having enough to cover liabilities.

North Las Vegas even before it opened Craig Ranch Regional Park knew it cannot afford to keep the park maintained but they still went ahead and opened the over 170 acre park. A very large park for a city who cannot afford to maintain it. Just saying! Oh by the way I live in county boundaries in Spring Valley.

You mean build an indoor stadium with all of the money North Las Vegas doesn't have?

NLV cannot borrow any more money; their credit rating is shot. If they want to build anything they will have to pay for it with cash or pay some high interest rates. NLV used money paid by residents for their sewer bill to cover their budget shortfall, that is how bad the situation is. The sewer money is only supposed to be used for sewer maintenance, not for general expenditures.

NLV would be well on the way to stability but for the local version of Prop 13. Effectively the NLV income from property tax was cut better than in half as the housing disaster unfolded. But now things are a good ways up again NLV should be feeling better...but they are not. They are nailed by the way the law works. When the housing prices went down to half they lost half their property tax revenue. Now things are back up like 40%...but they don't get their revenue back...it come back only at the 3% or 8% per annum provided for in the law.

I would not be surprised to see some relief for all the cities in the next legislature. Getting nailed as the property values drop is one thing. But not being able to at least partially recover as things come back is tough.

Research shows why Las Vegas can't attract the high-tech, car-averse, mass-transit-loving millennials to Las Vegas, if they're going to need a car to live here, they ain't coming!

L.A. is financing their ever-growing light rail and subway systems with a half-percent sales tax, approved by 68% of Los Angeles voters, and with matching funds from the Federal government.

Take that half-percent sales tax for the police and shift it to mass transit! No additional taxes needed!

Forgotten, roads are heavily subsidized as well!

This is going to be quite the interesting show for Las Vegas, the demise and the resurrection of North Las Vegas!
