U.S. 95 might not be very busy now, but they have estimated there will be a huge increase in traffic between here and Phoenix over the next several years. It would be good for the economies of both cities, and parts in between, to make it an easy drive. Just the perception of an easy freeway drive should also help increase visitors to Las Vegas from the 5 million in the Phoenix area, as well as all those people driving along I-10 through AZ and Cal. I've always said if there was a freeway, I'd probably visit Phoenix more often. I'd also appreciate it if I was driving from south Texas to Northern California.

Have made the trip between here and Phoenix, and here and Reno, many times, and wished there was a freeway. There is almost no traffic from here to Reno, but I think the idea is that a freeway would bring the two major parts of the state closer together. It should bring in more visitors from northern Cal too.

Mention Las Vegas to people in northern Nevada and you'll see how they hate Las Vegas. People in southern Nevada say, "northern what? Never been there."

+3 - That stretch of road is VERY dangerous . BC is the second worse part.

latest update:

"The first phase of the $318 million Interstate 11 project is about 60 percent complete, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. NDOT’s phase is projected to make up $83 million of the project's total cost.

NDOT’s portion of the Interstate 11 project calls for a four-lane concrete interstate freeway route south and west of Boulder City."

I drove down to BC last weekend and you can very clearly see lot of the work that has been completed including some of the highway dividers with nice mural work on them.

First small section is done!

"The first segment of southbound Interstate 11 will open at 5 a.m. Tuesday, running more than two miles between Railroad Pass hotel and U.S. Highway 95, the Nevada Department of Transportation said.
Drivers headed south on U.S. Highway 93 will be directed onto southbound I-11’s concrete lanes near the casino in Henderson, NDOT spokesman Tony Illia said.
From there, vehicles will get to use a new 600-foot-long flyover bridge that connects I-11 with the overlapping U.S. highways 93 and 95."
