I'm not even sure that area is City of North Las Vegas but I know the line is right over in that area somewhere.

There are some perfectly fine areas newer areas in NLV.

The Downtown area looks remarkably bad...no one driving thru would mistake it for a desirable area.
What downtown area? Around Civic Center?

Haha. NLVGal seem to be aware whenever someone says something bad about NLV. LOL I think she finally moved into Henderson after hearing enough bad things about NLV.

We live in North Las Vegas, and have never had a problem, our community is actually quite. Rule of thumb is West of Losee/5th, and North of Craig. Those are the better areas.

My daughter goes to Fredrick Watson Elementary, and we really have not had a problem. She has been Honor Roll every time, in Choir, on Student Council, and the Art Club. She keeps really active there. Has went since she was in Kindergarten, now in 4th grade. Love the teachers, really has not been a high turnover with them.

I have a list of the elementary and middle schools ranked by performance. Nothing fancy just using the CCSD data for achievement rather than their star system.

Anybody who wants it send me a PM. I would avoid the bottom quarter of elementary schools and the bottom half of middle schools.

Around the new NLV city hall...not sure of the street it's on.

Took a guess and assumed someone who is concerned enough to inquire about neighborhoods online would probably pass on that area.

I'm from the Northeast and currently live in Vegas. The public schools out here are garbage, even the so-called high performing ones. If you want your daughters to get an education that will allow them to compete with people outside Nevada you either need to go private or home school.

I also wouldn't want to live in NLV. My in-laws recently had to move from a wonderful, racially diverse neighborhood in NLV after one Section 8 family moved in and basically destroyed the place. Look for housing in Summerlin, Henderson or Centennial instead.

I think it all depends on the teachers. My daughter has been lucky to get some really great teachers, and if it seems like something is lacking, I am right on it. It is our jobs as parents to help with education just as much as it is the teachers.

The neighborhoods, really depends. We got lucky and have some really great neighbors. That being said, we do have some we can not stand. But I think you will have that in any neighborhood. Not everyone can get along. Some people just do not click. We have one of our neighbors that we can not stand the husband, but love the wife and kids. They actually brought over a plate of homemade goodies that they made for us right before Christmas.

But I would suggest going around at night in the neighborhoods that you are looking at. If you see people outside, stop and ask them how they like it. We have had that happen to us, and we are completely honest with them. The people that live there have not reason what so ever to lie to you, since it really does not effect them one way or another if you move into the community or not. But they just might become good friends with you also.

Good Luck!

You flirting with me again, wabbit?

The older areas of NLV are truly scary. Aliante and Eldorado? No. You just have to be careful about HS zoning for kids.

I'm curious as to what are people concerned with their child attending a less than desirable school,is it that he or she will not learn anything or maybe get bullied or what?

A less than desirable school usually equals more problem children, less parental involvement and low academic standards and this holds true for any city, not just Vegas. There's a reason why the housing market is always competitive in good school districts.
