I got married in Las Vegas on Halloween in '04. We stayed at "the Trop" and were compted very little for what we gambled/spent. Someone told me that they were planning on demolishing the Casino so they didn't feel the need to "comp" anyone much since they wouldn't be coming back anyways. Well here it is '08 and it's still there. Did I get bad information and they are just cheap or is there plans for a new Hotel/Casino on that property?

I heard they were going to just remodel and modernize the building and not tear it down from scratch. I heard this on Fox news channel.

One could only hope that demolishment would be in the order for this time-dated establishment. That corner is prime real estate for such a sad property.

its not being demolished, they are only going to tear down the nasty garden rooms and build a couple more towers and modernize the interior...

WOW! Did you notice this very critical sentence under the NEWS heading:
------------------------------------------
NEWS 7/17/07 Renovation plans on hold until 2008 due to a volatile debt market and rising construction costs.
------------------------------------------

When casinos stop building and expanding, it can only spell BIG trouble for Las Vegas.

Nope. Normal behavior. The also go belly up periodically. See Alladin/Planet Hollywood and Rampart Resort/JW Marriott among others.

The Tropicana owners have had problems and may get run out of the business.

It was the very first place I stayed at (for 2 nights) while visiting LV for the first time back in 1993. I remember the pools being kind of ok....but that was it.
