People often use the phrase, too close to home, to describe things that go on in their community. I consider it a misuse of the phrase. I'd like to give an example of a proper usage of that phrase. This morning, I woke up, and passed by the window that overlooks the strip. Every morning, I look out that window, and admire the scene. This time, the scene was different. Instead of the normally clear road that leads to the wash that stands between my home, and the strip, there sat a metro ambulance. I've never seen one like it before. I open my front door, and this is what I see.

Blurred on the left edge, you can see the corner of my house. To the right, also blurred, the tree I have to trim to appease the HOA. This is too close to home, my home.

Here we can see the crime scene photographer setting up to take a shot of the bloodied body, hanging out of a 90's economy Dodge product.

The policeman I spoke to wouldn't give me any details, but he said that it did not start here, it just ended here.

If you look at the crime data for this area, there was 1 incident until last night. Someone's car got broken into. No b&e, no guns, no stabbings, nothing. That car thing was personal, as well. Someone got mad at someone, accused them of stealing something, then broke in to try and retrieve the item. I don't feel unsafe here.

From the looks of it, the guy was running from the actual scene, and ended up dying here.

When you all find that mythical place, can you please share its whereabouts? My family's unicorn is packed and ready to go....

Statistically, there are neighborhoods that are safer than others.
Just keep in mind that there are no absolutes. There are exceptions to everything.
Crime can happen anywhere, at any time, for any reason. Just because a neighborhood that has been safe for decades, has a crime occur in it, it doesn't make it an unsafe neighborhood. 1 crime is a fluke. 100 crimes is a pattern.

You didn't hear anything? Any gunshot or tires squealing?

I was asleep when it happened. 3am. The wife said she heard helicopters, and sirens. No gun shots.

I don't like how everyone parks in their driveway instead of their garage on your cul-du-sac. There's one house where they have so many people with vehicles in one house that the white pick up truck parks in front of the other two cars in the drive way.

Have you considered that those drivers can't get to their drives and garages because the police have them blocked off with that yellow tape?
