Yup and they took a half ton built in safe out of the home of Jan Jones in as about as tight a neighborhood as exist in Summerlin.

so?...

You can live on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific and get hit by a meteorite.

It is rates and not incidents that determines the relative safety of a neighborhood.

Default Crime in Vegas

I did not even know there were any trailer parks left after the dessimation of last year.

And who in their right mind recommended Summerlin as an alternative to this person? And why is Summerlin constantly given as the only choice practically. It is time that everyone see there are many places to live in this valley and many places in the valley were very vibrant and safe to live in before Summerlin and still are

That being said. There are some nice areas all over the valley of Las Vegas (including Summerlin). Pockets of good homes and neighbors for many different prices.

To avoid crime I would go to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and use Las Vegas Metro PDs crime mapper when you are thinking about a certain neighborhood.

You should move up here to Idaho, just an idea ...everyone else seems to LOVE it here and it's CHEAP and safe. Lots of family things to do. It's growing like crazy and lots of new jobs coming to this area Pocatello, SE Idaho). JMO!
We moved from Idaho to Vegas in 2004 and still enjoy a nice peaceful suburban lifestyle at a good cost. There are alot of jobs here. Idaho has had a number of corporate layoffs recently and in the past (Micron for example). Idaho (at least the Boise area) has become alot less cheap. The houses that were $180,000 in 2000 now sell for around $300,000 (quite like Vegas) and continue to rise (unlike the rest of the the US).

I stick with my thought that all cities, all places have their fair share of crime. Some more hidden than others. And all cities have places that are more or less safe to live. If you want to stay here use LVMPD to find the best place.

It's been my experience that, IF you are the victim of a crime, then it's the worstplace in the universe. If you are NOT the victime of a crime it's paradise.

In 45 yrs in Las Vegas, I have only been victimized one time and Metro caught the "young gentleman" within 10 minutes and graciously "escorted him to Stateline".

I LOVE LAS VEGAS

i'm curious to test this....

this question is for sheriff (although i suspect it will go unanswered): as one of the biggest detractors of las vegas, i am curious as to if you have ever been a victim of any crime in LV? was it any of the violent crimes you are so adamant about?

*regardless of our differences in opinion, i hope the answer to both q's is no

I live near new orleans. We just shoot and kill anyone that trys to carjack us or break into our homes and it's justifiable homicide.

For all those that say Las Vegas is dangeous all I have to reply in response is not even close. Las Vegas is actually below average in crimes per person. You can't count incidents you have to count relativity. In New York City, there's close to 8,200,000 residents living there but yet believe it or not has one of the lowest murder rates anywhere yet has more murders than let's say Boise as has been mentioned in this thread all due to crime rate not crime incidents. I've lived in Las Vegas since 1998 and have seen it all heard it all. I've lived in every part of the metropolitan area. I would really wish people would stop paiting Summerlin and Green Valley as the only nice places to live. Sheesh. I have a girlfriend that lives int he Southwest between Spanish Trails and Mountain's Edge and nothing bad ever happens there. There's also Stallion MOuntain that's in the East yet many peple here would say tha's ghetto just because they hear it's East. There's Aliante and the upcoming Park Highlands both safe and all in north Las Vegas long thought as the worst crime area. If you want to get really tehnical, I was visiting Boca Park mall in Summerlin and saw a couple of adults trying to rip of PF Chang's China Bistro by not paying leaving before the bill the arrived. Come on people crime can happen anywhere. I think that that the tourists bring more crime with them than the residents all due to the Sin City and what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas monikers. So the crimes reported are misinterpreted. If you took away the 40 million per year tourists that love to jump into the vice, then perhaps Las Vegas would be really safe. You know one of the ways that we can all contribute to the overall quality of life of Las Vegas and if you're not doing your part you're sucking life out of this city not helping it is by trying to give the kids all a better education. Ths state of Nevada is the bottom of the barrel compared to other states in education. Plus be a mentor like m. Volunteer your spare time to mentor a child. I mentor a high school student from Valley High on the Eastside and I can tell it's been a great help. It especially helps if a male mentor mentors a child without a father present. If we give the kids all the tools to succeed, then crime will be low everywhere becaus they would grow to be mature, contributing members of society as opposed to trying to take away from it.

NV sex offenders:
State of Nevada Sexual Offenders Search Page

Another good website I use to research neighborhoods is Family Watchdog:
National Sex Offender Registry

It maps registered sex offenders.
