Default Is living in Las Vegas as fun as vacationing in Las Vegas?

I've been to Las Vegas three times in the last year and each time it was the best time of my life! It just got better each time.

I met some pretty ladies the latter two times in the strip clubs and they were really cool.

The shows were awesome (Blue Man, Fantasy, etc)

The restaurants were unreal. I could move into Chinois haha.

So is living in Vegas as fun as vacationing in Vegas?

Sad to say, but No.

Its almost impossible to get a job, the city beyond the strip is nasty, and the economy is getting worse. And the heat SUCKS!
We have huge traffic problems, illegal alien issues, and violent crime and auto theft is among the nation's highest. But besides the terrible weather, lack of jobs, worsening economy and crime, its awesome!

Are you thinking of moving here?

Nice to hear you had a good time. Please come again as often as you can, we need the money.

Not all of us are regulars at strip clubs. I've never been to one. That whole rain coat look is too 70's.

I rarely go the Strip, let alone shows. Too expensive. Same with fancy restaurants.

It's a laugh a minute. No personal income tax is nice, as are all of the choices of cuisine, and other shops. People here are generally friendly.

Other than that, its about the same as any other large southwestern city.

CBK: Parts of the east side of town, like Naked City, are bad, but you can't say that about all of Vegas. I'm partial to Centennial Hills, and the west side is nice too.

The Strip loses its allure pretty quickly. Living in Vegas is fine, there are some very nice places to live - but you are better off if you cash out of a higher priced area somewhere else and bring your own money. If you aren't financially independent, you might not enjoy working the two or three part-time jobs you will have to get to make it given the way the local economy is structured. People who come here to live the "club lifestyle" or to "make it big at the blackjack tables" are the ones who end up having to live in cheesy apartments on the east side while working at Target, and they then come on this board and talk about how horrible the crime/violence/heat are in Las Vegas.

People....you make it what you want it to be.....honestly if you hate this City that much....do us all a favor and please find another place to live. I get the feeling that miserable people that have nothing to do but complain about how Ghetto Vegas is...would just be miserable people anywhere.

I say if you want to make a move and experience Vegas....come and do it! Nothing has to be forever, and if it is an experience you want to enjoy....go for it! But hey....if you do not want to call Vegas home, it will always be the place that you enjoyed on your visits...so keep coming back!

I moved from L.A. about two years ago. I like it just fine - it's like any other moderately sized city, but less expensive than many - for instance, I'm paying a couple hundred less in rent for a 3br house than I was paying for a 1br apartment in SoCal...

Can't speak to the job market. I brought my business with me from CA and have since started a second.

If you want to live the tourist lifestyle, be prepared to spend money like a tourist. Clubs, shows and fine dining are expensive.

If you want to do it, I say go for it. Just make sure you don't have any illusions about what it's like to live here. It's just like any other city, but with more entertainment options than most. Sure, it has problems, but so does every other medium-large city.

Come for a weekend or a week just to drive around and see what it's like off the strip. Stay at a hotel/motel away from downtown and the strip and spend your time driving around and taking notes.

i've lived here for 5 years and i'm looking to leave.

living in vegas is a phase. yes, clubs/strip are fun for a while, apts. are affordable (it generally is a reasonable place to live).

i don't mind the heat but the ppl here are very superficial. i have some close buddies but MANY acquaintances who only call when they need something, lol.

summerlin's a safe place to live but the ppl there are super-snob. the las vegas area close to henderson and henderson itself are nice areas to live.

i recommend finding restaurants off the strip. that's such a tourist trap with many places with mediocre food (a lot of hype) and a high price tag.

yes, we do have a first friday for the art community but it's rather weak--they try. be prepared to see movies in a casino (except for a few places). the culture here revolves around casinos and clubs.

it depends too on what you like to do with your free time. if you LOVE to drink, smoke or gamble you'll probably love it here and make MANY friends, lol.

Why don't you knock off this nonsense? You have been perfectly well briefed on living in Las Vegas. YOu know that there is a vast difference between being a tourist and a local. If you are renting a 1000 a month or less apartment you can't afford to go near the strip or the club scene or the fine restaurants. You have to save all year for a single meal at Chinois.

Now behave or all your practical questions are going into the garbage can.

I don't think vacationing in any city is anything at all like living in it.
