The minorities have been leaving the inner city of L.A., and South/East L.A., for years now, due to escalating rents, so they're being driven out to San Bernardino, Victorville, Hesperia, Palmdale, Lancaster, the new ex-urban L.A. slums.

one would assume they'd build a car rental agency right there where both ends of the rail stops. &/or another rail line heading in another direction.

I live in Palmdale. It's not so bad. Violent crime rate here is only 3.8, well below the national average of 4.4 and the California average of 4.7. Median income here, locally, is $75,500. Yes, we are a minority-majority city (65% Hispanic), but as a Hispanic person myself, I'm not bothered. I have White and Asian neighbors and they aren't bothered either. Lots of retirees, military and families around here.

We're not doing bad here, by any metric. Yes, there are rough parts of town, no different than the rough parts of Las Vegas or the rough parts of Tucson where you live. Would you call all of Tucson a "slum" ?

I cannot speak for Victorville. It is over 55 miles east of us, which is pretty far.

I live in LA and go to vegas (pre pandemic) regularly. Most of the annoyance is the LA traffic, which makes a train from victorville completely useless.

Completely agree with this. The drive between Las Vegas and Victorville is the easy part of the trip unless there's an accident on the NV side of 15, then you can spend hours creeping and crawling along 15 in NV. Same is true for the CA side of 15 when there's an accident but usually it's the easiest part of the trip. I've made the drive more times than I care to remember.

Appears the construction won't start this year, after all.

Trains News wire is reporting that the proposed sale of Muni bonds to fund the Las Vegas-LA high speed rail project is off -- officially it's been "postponed until market liquidity improves,”
There has never been a better time to sell bonds.

I've been to the proposed train station in Victorville. It's full of homeless people. The neighborhood is not exactly safe.

Not just the LA traffic. The I-15 near Victorville is pretty backed up as well due to the Vegas traffic.
