You've probably read that that high-speed train formerly known as XpressWest, formerly known as Virgin Rail USA (now Brightline West) finally got some funding, with groundbreaking supposedly taking place before the end of the year and completion claimed for 2023.
Given that this train only goes to Victorville - a high desert city well east of the LA Basin - some question whether driving the hard part, followed with the parking, dragging bags, the ticketing, the waiting-etc., riding their COVID-spreader, then being disgorged 3 miles south of the Strip only to have to make your way to your hotel and then either not having a car to get around or having to rent one or Uber - is something anyone would want to do.

Hence my question: Would you use this train?

I will use it every single time I need to go to Victorville or anywhere near there. Lol.

They have said that the link to Rancho Cucamonga, CA will be done as well when the train starts service. That way you can hop Metro to Palmdale and on into the main train station in LA. If that is true, then that would be more palatable I think. They know that starting the service and just going to Victorville is a non starter.

I hope it works out, I'd use it. I live in Henderson and would like to go to LA more often, but hate to fly and the drive sucks. I'd need to rent a car for the period of time I'm there, I assume there will be some easy way to get to a car rental place. Of course none of this matters until Covid is under control, but it's good to plan for a future where it might be someday.

I never visited LA when I lived in California. I'm certainly not going to start because they build a choo choo train.

I might use it to go to and from LA, via Amtrak from Victorville. Once the train line is running, it would seem logical for Greyhound to expand its Victorville station to be a hub to Palm Springs, LA, San Diego, and points north. Perhaps Amtrak and Greyhound would add express service to LA Union Station as well. When I lived on the east coast, I frequently used the express bus service between DC and NYC.

Agreed. This is what it would take for me to use it as well. It would need to connect into the LA metro area at/near a rental car facility. Any connectors also need to keep the travel time at a minimum.

People living in LA may choose to drive their car the 84 miles to Victorville and then take the train from there to Las Vegas.
I do not see people who live in Las Vegas using this train to go to Victorville. Could work for the tourists from LA coming to LV of which there are many.
