That's great to hear, Davie. Are they still hiring, especially for cashiers? I've applied to K Mart in the past, but never heard back from them. I guess that I really got the blew light special.

Congrats, Davie!!! Can't say you haven't been trying!!! WTG!

Aqua...sending prayers for you and your babies! Have you ever thought of high-tailing outta Vegas? I know you don't have much, but maybe there are states that have a better employment situation. I'd offer MI to you, but well, ya know...I live in both states with horrible unemployment rates! My son has been job searching for two years with minimal luck. Mostly temp jobs. And he is young and healthy. (he is also a bit lazy and not too keen on "hard" work, wouldn't fly with me but he lives with daddy)

LVD-I hope you get through whatever it is in one piece.

LVD-prayers for you and aqualung both are in order. Continuation prayers.

aqua-I know what you mean about the babies. I love them so much and as I age I just get closer and closer to our animals. When Rocky, our 9 y/o Pom cream-colored, died on Dec.30, 2009, we were all three crushed. My wife held him the last 8 hours of his life. He had Congestive Heart Failure. Abby, the first Pom we ever bought, also died at the same age of CHF. I buried both dogs, Rocky is buried in the back yard of our Willcox, AZ, home. It tears me up when they pass.

My wife quit her job at the Red Lion Inn and Casino in Elko and got a stocking job at Wal*Mart. It pays $2.00/hr. more than Red Lion and she will be working at night, like I am at the Elko hospital. We will get the "10% Wal*Mart employee and spouse discount" on Wal*Mart goods. Whoo-hoo!

Wal*Mart is where we shopped before, anyway, so good news. She is at her Wal*Mart orientation right now. It goes for 2 full days, the orientation. Lots and lots and lots of rules and reg.'s ta follow at Wally*World. Oh well, she is happy about it and I'd have ta say I am, too.

I do not know if they are still hiring. You can try. The Kmart is on the corner of Washington and Buffalo in Summerlin.

I was thinking the same thing kimba said aqua. Perhaps may be time to head on to other places. Maybe head east? I hear the economy is pretty strong in Texas, particularly Dallas. I hear their UE is 8.6% (I guess these days 8.6% UE means a strong economy) The cost of living there is also quite low as well. If you truly love Las Vegas, please dont take it as an insult. I really do want the best for you. If you are happy in Las Vegas than more power to you. But from what I've gathered Texas abounds in opportunity.

The Federal Gov't continues to grow (to my dismay) as well and the UE in the Washington DC area is like 6% I believe? Lots of opportunities there for sure. I lvoe the DC area, particularly the Virginia side. I remember my family got lost in the Springfield area in Fairfax County and I thought it was absolutely gorgeous. Beware though, the DC area is EXPENSIVE. Not as expensive as California, but not much cheaper either

LVD will swear to you not to live in Dallas, but other than him I have heard nothing but good things about it. You may even see Walker Texas Ranger and Trivette karate chopping some bad guys

Be warned though, its just as hot in Texas as it is in Nevada. With some humidity to boot. Only reason I didnt choose Texas was because the state is FAR too conservative for a moderate Democrat like me. Conservative or not, Texans really know how to grill up a nice juicy steak

I have always heard that even now, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are among the most undervalued housing markets in the US. In the good times $160,000 could get you a 3500 sq ft house in San Antonio

Republican states USUALLY have a low cost of living

You are overlooking the Texas-sized property taxes over there. Small wonder that the house prices will always be affordable in Texas.

One of my co-workers sold smartly during the boom times here, bought a 2200
SF home in San Antonio for $120k (brand new) and jumped up and down with joy at her purchase, overlooking the taxes: $3500 a year!

I have a great friend in Austin who has told me all about the horrors of property taxes over there.

There's an easy fix for that - don't buy a house.
