Default Sunrise Mountain in 2009

I searched the forum for info about this area. The info seems to be sparse and dated. What is it like today? Is it safe? Can someone suggest a few zip codes in that area? Thanks.

The zipcode area is 89124. The neighboring zipcodes are all according to the crime incident map in orange and mean second to being the highest crime zipcodes.

jjameson, you mean 89142, correct?

the closer to Hollywood you are, the bigger the homes and the nicer the neighborhood...

89142 is fine and very nice, lots of shopping too!

i have no clue what crime map jjameson is looking at, but i have the real crimemap website CrimeView Community Incident Map and it will tell you by zip code or radius from street number what the crimes are...

OK, i just compared both zip codes 89123 and 89142 on Crime View Community, without stolen vehicles because every part of Las Vegas has that problem

89142-around 300 crimes in last 60 days
89123-around 700 crimes in last 60 days

very funny, how people claim 89142 to be so unsafe, i live in 89123 and i don't even encounter any issues or hear any issues and people don't avoid 89123 like the plague...

jjameson, that little crime map that you quote, is from 2 years ago, quite a little outdated and says that 89123 is better than 89142, Crimeview Community has proved that wrong!

The crime map is about 14 months old and is still quite accurate. It was actually made from the crimeview web site among other things.

You have to correct for population kid. Crime is a rate thing. They are actually close to each other 17000 incidence per 100,000 versus 18,000.

Both however are a long way from the safest areas which are around 3500 per 100,000. They are however half the bad zips which get up close to 40,000 incidents per 100,000.

Make sure you have the newer version at...

The crime map I am referring to was put together by Olecapt and the date on it is 2008. I did not say Sunrise Mountain was in a high crime area. In fact on my map, it is not even color coded. What I did say was Sunrise Mtn. shows up as zipcode 89124 and all the other zipcodes surrounding it, 89122, 89142, 89110, 89156 and 89115 are coded in orange which means next to the worst in crime. Let's not get in a fight about this because the person who posted it has probably taken off, like others, never to be heard from again and it is not worth it.

89124 is for Mount Charleston, which is on the other side of town, not anywhere close to Sunrise Mountain.

I see what you are talking about now. But 89124 is Mount Charleston. Olecapt, why would they have the far part of Sunrise Mountain and that area as the same zip code?

89124 is the local overlay code. if it is not in any other zip code it is 89124. So whenever you get out of Vegas where there is no zip code you are in 89124

I think I may take a try one of these years at an automated crime chart. The problem is that the three jurisdiction use utterly different algorithms...so I actually compare them to each other uses the latest DofJ crime statistics.
