I just moved to vegas from wa state. I have a felony for drugs from 18 years ago. I have a job interview at a casino and I wanted to know if that felony is going to prevent me from getting work in a casino. I got hired at smiths as well and they said my background check was clear for them but how deep do casinos go. I really want this other job and since i am new I dont know how this all works. any advice is appreciated.

Keep your mouth shut, and don't check that felony box on your application. Just glaze over it and say you missed that box if they ask. Then change the subject. Maybe mention how The Golden Nights are kicking butt. 😃 Good luck to you.

Once they have his SSN, the conviction will show up on the background check. If he admits to it up front, they may reject him out of hand. If he doesn't admit to it up front and they find it, they will reject him out of hand. The chances of them not finding it, are very low.

Its probably different now, but I dealt Craps at the Stardust in the 70's, and at that time there were more felons than non felons working there.

And background checks were not the standard back then. I knew one place were they would conduct a lie detector test and pretty much the craps crew could not pass when asked if they ever did a hit and miscall when there was money up for the boys.

Her. And they generally go back ten years. But feel free to disregard my advice. I've only been here since 1972.

They probably haven't been doing computerized national criminal record checks since 1972. And even if the casino HR departments only go back 10 year's (which I would be surprised if is still the case), many casino jobs require a sheriff's card. They'll go through the NCIC. I really doubt that has any time limit.

Sheriffs cards are only required for certain positions. She did not mention what she was applying for, or if she did, I missed it. She already cleared the background check at Kroger / Smiths, as she mentioned. Now, if it is a gaming sensitive position, and cash handling, could be a different story. But mostly, nobody cares if you got caught doing some dope 18 years ago.
