Hello forumites,

In January I'm going to Vegas with my fiance. We gonna stay for 3 nights and wanna have a really good experience. I'm wondering about a few things and would be glad to hear any suggestions. I'm especially interested in the insights of the locals.

Let's start:

1) Which restaurant offers the best buffet, preferable with good selection of different ethnic foods in your view?

2) Do you know of any low key live music bar/restaurant? We are pretty open when it comes to music styles.

3) Which resort or area has the best bars and nicest nightlife atmosphare? We are not into clubbing though. What are the hangouts for locals and people who know where to go?

4) Is there something particular which shouldn't be missed?

Thanks for you help.

the answers will vary widely, probably most dependent on age of the responder. also, whether or not you have a car may be important.

breakfast - buffet at the paris. i also like simon place at palms place.
lunch/dinner - i avoid it personally. with that said, people tend to like the seafood buffet at the rio.

the dueling piano bar at harrah's on a saturday night can be a good time. i guess it depends on the crowd as to how low key it will be.

my favorite bar on the strip is double helix at the palazzo. its a low key wine bar in the middle of the hi end shops on the 2nd floor... ie its rarely busy, good wine selection, great service.

foundation room at mandalay bay is also good- low key, and incredible views of the strip. with that said, its member's only most nights. i believe monday nights are when its open to the public. otherwise it has random nights open to the public.

A nice romantic spot is the Fontana Bar at the Bellagio which is located directly behind the Fountain show on the patio. They have heaters set up out there with cocktail service.

I always liked the Mirage buffet for lunch/dinner because they had the made to order pasta station, but it's gotten really expensive.

For a unique dining experience, try Samba at the Mirage - Brazilian Steakhouse. For $30-$40.00 a person, you can't go wrong for unlimited meat and sides!

Absolutely I vote for the breakfast buffet at the Paris. My husband and I love it. No matter what we always have breakfast there. The first time was a happy accident, now we must go there.

I prefer sit down dinners so no help on the buffets for that.

My husband and I love aquariums and really enjoyed the Mandalay Bay experience.

I personally feel for lunch or dinner buffets it would be Bellagio, hands down. Runs about $30 p/p. If you plan on having a large meal for dinner, breakfast buffets are something we stay away from but there are some wonderful places to eat just a order from the menu breakfast. Most of the casino/hotels have great loss leader breakfast specials.

Just stay at either the Mirage or Paris. Either has all of the things you are looking for and will make for a romantic location for you and your fiance to enjoy a few nights. Rates are probably insanely cheap right now for either of these 4-star hotels.

As for the "something that should not be missed", that is like asking what the best flavor of ice cream is. Get more specific or at least pick a price range.
