Hey I'm a college student from Jersey looking to move to Vegas for the summer to just experience something else and get into the hospitality industry. I might be moving out there alone, so does anyone know good apartment complexes or areas that have a larger population of students so that I can meet people I'd like to hang out with.

Live close to your classes. That's where the other students are too. It's great to be able to hang out at Rebel Pizza after class.

Is it safe? Not by Summerlin standards but most university housing type areas aren't safe. You just have to be aware and careful.

Try Silverado 89123. Loaded with kiddies...and you can find accomodations.

You might also ask YellowSnow to rent you a room. She lives in another area for the more adventuresome young...and she has a pool...

I'm also a North Jersey transplant, and a great place to meet other college kids, is YAYO'S taco on the weekends. Right near UNLV. If you are not going to UNLV I'd suggest living nowhere near there. It's not the greatest of areas.
Judging by the ignorant comments on here, I guess Nevadans think North Jersey people hang/walk around in places like Newark and Paterson. lol. I would not suggest hanging out after dark near UNLV or Maryland parkway by yourself. They have a whole other type of crazy dangerous weirdos out here.

I'm sure you will love it out here and good luck to you! PM me if you want a Bergen county natives perspective or need any info at all.

Also my college friends live near Allanza at the lakes/the lakes area, and there's a ton of local college kids near there.

At the Lakes? Only the rich ones who can't afford Summerlin. Kind of Like a frat house in Red Rock Country Club....

Most college students at UNLV, if they are local, live at home. The rest live either on campus or group together and rent homes. The Neighborhood near UNLV isn't great. UNLV has no fraternity or sorority row and their greek system is not very well established. You find a house here and a house here, but they are geographically seperate.

If you are looking to meet the college kids in the hospitality industry (and when you say hospitality, I think nightlclub), look no further than an industry night at any Vegas nightclub (if you are old enough to get in, that is.

My question would be this- with the huge unemployment rate in Las Vegas (including in the hospitality industry), what makes you think you're going to stroll into town for a few months and be able to find a job? By the time you establish residence, get the required health cards, etc., and find a job (if you can), the summer will be over.

You're also not likely to find many landlords willing to sign a 2-month lease, so your options may be limited to the weekly rentals, which generally come in two varieties- cheap and nasty, or high-priced corporate.
