Hmmm...maybe the above reason influences my hubby but not I so much.
We still think there's a lot of opportunity there for skilled, hard working people. We love the U.S generally, and feel more at home there than here (australia). We have a lot of contacts there and some good job leads. We can't wait to move there in December.
There are plenty of worse places in the world one can go.
Well if you go around bragging that the US is the bestest country in the world of course others will want to come here.
Who was bragging?
Besides, I think it's only a matter of time until something REALLY happens that upsets the overall population enough to revolt against the current government. Capitalism isn't working and it only favors the top fraction of citizens. Once the majority middle class starts struggling like they are now then it's only a matter of time.
I used to drive down to New Jersey with my kids, often around the holidays. They don't allow self-service gas there, so on pretty much every trip we would see these guys from I don't know where, maybe Ghana, Yemen, all kinds of foreign countries out in the freezing cold, snow whipping their faces, while they were outside pumping gas and collecting our payments.
I would point out to my kids that no matter how miserable they were doing that crummy job, it was better than where they came from.
Its a very big decision in somebody's life to move from home country to say USA in search of better career. nowadays it is very difficult for new immigrants to get good jobs as economy is bad here.
