Mr Martin has already committed to seeking a visa agreement with the US authorities for the "undocumented" Irish in the US. He stated last month that "finding a solution for our undocumented citizens is a key priority."
Arrangements for last night's meeting were finalised last Friday but were not publicised for security reasons.
The men also discussed the establishment of the new US customs pre-clearance facility which was agreed between the Irish and US governments last month and which will open in Shannon next year. The facility will speed up the process of entry into the US.
We don't have jobs for our own people, our economy is in the toilet and yet the politicians are still ok with us being considered the worlds' dumping ground.
If I were Irish--I'd be heading home! Their economy is in much better shape than ours is. Plus the Irish have recently gained a real sense of nationalism--they're much more picky about who they let live within their borders.

As both of you pointed out: Ireland today is quite First World-------why we would have illegals from there is downright stupid.
I have quite a few Irish relatives. When they come back from a trip to Boston or New York they tell us about the Irish people they have met in these cities, most of them there illegally.
The illegalls don't have any problems in the states because they stay with relatives, work off the books so don't pay any tax, and if they are stopped by the police for some reason, the cop hears their accent, winks, and lets them go.
With the irish economy in dire straights, be prepared for another invasion of The Irish, they will be easy to spot though, they will be the people at the bar getting drunk and telling everybody what a great country Ireland is, and probably singing Danny Boy.

Affirmative Action (which would not apply to the Irish [unless they were of non White heritage]) or Alcoholics Anonymous? Even heavy the drinking that the Irish are (or were) infamous for is showing signs of dying out.
