Hey Shilo. Here is a link to Jason Rasmussen. He is at Georgetown's hospital. He is a client of mine too. I think if I ever needed any type of surgury, I would want him to do it.
There aren't many places around here that offer gastric bypass. Georgetown is one of the only ones. I think the fact that most major hospitals don't offer this raises suspicions. Of course, when complications occur they get sent to the major academic hospitals who try to figure out what to do with those train wrecks. Remember, gastric bypass drastically alters gastrointestinal physiology and there are some dramatic horror stories from this procedure.
I am an RN and am familiar with this type of surgery. There aren't a lot of surgeons here who perform this surgery b/c it's a specialty surgery requiring the surgeon to have had additional training. Look for a doctor who is fellowship trained in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Board Certified and practicing at a Center of Excellence. Any surgeon can perform this surgery but their complication rate is going to be much higher and they can't be a designated Center of Excellence if they are not fellowship trained and have not performed a certain amount of bypasses. I know Georgetown is a Center of Excellence but I am not sure about other Hospitals in Lexington. The surgery isn't performed at Georgetown b/c it's a smaller hospital -- it's one of their major specialties like how some hospitals are known for their cardiac care. All good programs also work with a psychologist and dietician so go check out some seminars and find the right fit for you!

Just how many doctors are needed to perform gastric bypass?? Sure there's overweight people around, but most of them have no interest in having surgery.
