We are considering a couple of options for areas to move around Lexington and a big factor for us is schools since we have a child that will be starting elementary soon. We are considering the south side of Lexington and also Winchester area. Can anyone speak to the quality of schools and if you recommend a completely different school district?
Most public elementary schools on the south side of Lexington are pretty good, with Cassidy and Stonewall being exceptionally so. Tates Creek is not as desirable as some of the other schools, due to socioeconomic changes in its area of service. There are also elementary schools with various special programs - Spanish emersion at Maxwell, arts elsewhere, the Quest program for gifted and talented kids, etc. Take a look at the Fayette County Schools website for more info.
Both Sayre School and The Lexington School are good private non-religiously affiliated schools. Sayre is downtown, The Lexington School in SW Lexington.
We live on the south-end and have a daughter who will be starting at Southern Elementary this fall. I don't have any first-hand experience with the schools here yet but I've heard really good things about our school, so I'm optimistic. I have a friend whose mother works as a substitute teacher and she said that Southern is one of her favorite schools to work at.
I was referring to the town of Winchester, but we have since decided to stay in Lexington. Thanks
