I am moving from Maryland/DC to lexington KY. I have been looking at apartments to rent and the best one I saw that fit my price range ($700-$800 a month) was the steeplechase apartments. I was curious to see anyone's opinion about the neighborhood. Is it a safe area? Nice people? And what about the surrounding area, is there shopping/dining? Was curious to get any information about steeplechase and it's neighborhood! Thank you!!
I'm sorry, I know nothing about the apartment situation in Lex, but I just wanted to welcome you to the Great Bluegrass!! I am sure someone will be along shortly to help you out with your apartment questions!
So what brings you to Lex? The horses? If so, you will love it here! It's like Oz for horselovers!!
I Live in South Western Lexington, and don't get out that way all that much, but I think anymore it's a pretty nice area....
that is a great price for a brand new Apartment, and they look pretty nice, from what I see in this video...I know it's also close to Andover, which is one of the nicest parts of Lexington. Hamburg area also has a lot of shopping nearby.

Hi Valley,
First, welcome to Lexington. I will say that the area where Steeplechase is located is safe. You are within 5 minutes of both the Hamburg area and Richmond Rd. Both have major grocery stores and Wal-Mart. Hamburg also has a walkable mall area with stores as well as Target, movie theatre, many banks, etc. I have lived in all different parts of the city and would have to say that Hamburg has been my favorite area just because you are close to anything you need consumer wise.
My opinion on Steeplechase is another story. I apartment shopped and rented in that part of town in 2010 and unless they have made some major changes the place is a dump. I would recommend Colt's Run or Fountains of Andover over Steeplechase any day. Not that I'm a snob, I've lived in my fair share of ****holes during college, but for $800 a month you should come home to something nice. Absolutely do not sign a lease on ANYTHING sight unseen.
Just my two cents. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Welcome to the area! Sorry I cannot help you with apartment living in Lexington but I wanted to let you know that this area is home to Lexington's largest 100% homegrown (guaranteed) farmers market. We're seasonal and closed right now but we'll be back in April and hope you come visit us. www.bluegrassfarmersmarket.org
Hmmm....I still think they look pretty nice on video, but I haven't seen them in person like the above person mentioned.
But I wonder now reading the link below how safe they are, looking at the reviews of previous residents. (The Utilities seem to be rather high in comparison for this area).
My hubby use to work with the Police Department in Baltimore though, and Lexington's crime rate is nothing compared to Baltimore or DC.
