Soon as I saw the thread title, "Two girls in London, where to stay?", I thought that it would be dollars to doughnuts that you'd chime in about hotels in Sussex Gardens cowboy!
He's right though girls, it's a good area to stay in, close to Oxford Street shopping, and a 10 minute tube ride to Westfield shopping mall at Shepherds Bush.
Lots of good bars and restaurants around Paddington Basin, and off Edgware Road, I was in the Grand Union Bar at lunchtime today, nice place.
The area is heavily populated by Kuwaitis and Saudis, but it's quite safe around there, they may look at you, but they're no danger.
