Hello, everyone. I have few questions regarding the town of Northport in Suffolk County. Recently, I had a chance to read a census report regarding Northport area. It listed white population of the town as 98% which I believe is exceedingly high. Certainly, white people are the predominant population in Long Island just as they are in the U.S. But for other towns in Long Island, they usually don't exceed 90%.
Is there any reason why the white population in Northport is so high? Why aren't more minority population moving in like the town of Commack? As a long-time resident, what do you love about living in Northport?

A map of the Village of Northport in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County:
The Village of Northport has a different border than does the "Northport, NY 11768" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Northport, NY 11768" mailing address and not be in the Village of Northport): places that have a "Northport, NY 11768" mailing address that are not in the Village of Northport are in the Hamlet of Eatons Neck, the Village of Asharoken, the Hamlet of Fort Salonga, the Hamlet of East Northport and the Hamlet of Centerport.
I'm sure that is accurate. There are several towns on Long Island that are "that white" and there are several that are 98% non-white.
As far as why don't other populations move in, who knows? Northport is one of those towns where people tend to grow up there, leave, and then come back to raise a family.
According to the 2000 Census, 94.7% of the Village of Northport was white.
