Thanks Walter, I'll keep that in mind for future postings. Thanks for being the voice of reason.

Buying is ALWAYS best - no matter where.ALWAYS!
I am guessing schools are not an issue for you.
Do you work in western Suffolk is that why you are looking at those towns? I mean I do know they are affordable.
A lot of thise areas go on a block by block basis, so you really have to check out the individual area.
What is your budget?
I am most familiar with Brentwood and CI.
North Brentwood near Haupauge is convenient to the expressway and still safe, The Country Club area of Brentwood is and has always been nice. I have a friend who is a nurse and lives in North Brentwood on Barleau St. Her son graduated from Sonderling High School and now is a vet in his late 20s. Not bad.
As far a CI is concerned again stay NORTH. The friend I alluded to before has some investment properties in Brentwood and CI.
If you need further info I could contact her.
I really do not know much good about North Amityville. Actually to be fair I do not know much at all.
Same goes with Wyandanch. there is an area near Wyandanche that attends Half Hollow Hills Schools and they have a condo community that looks nice. Wheatly Heights has some nice parts and is near Wyandanche.
CM me if you want more info.

I think you are equally likely to get shot, mugged, burglarized, raped, or vandalized in any of those towns. Throw a dart at the map and let fate decide.

IF you are thinking of joining a gang though...I would go with Brentwood.

That location is especially handy if the gang is MS-13:

Hmmm. Judging from your participation in other threads, you know much more about the living conditions in two of these places than you represent you do in this thread. Certainly enough that any sensible person would cross the two off their list of potential areas to buy homes in:

North Amityville does generally have higher crime than most other areas.

But just keep your doors locked and try to convince your mom to get a good home security system and you should be fine in terms of safety.

Also, try to convince your mom to make you go to Private School if you are that afraid of Copiague High.

As for crime, I have not noticed any major crimes take place. I have not heard about those burglaries in this community that a previous forum member stated, but this area doesn't have as much of a crime problem as nearby Wyandanch; no debating that. It's very quiet.
I can't believe people fell for this thread.

Either Wyandanch or North Amityville! Holla at ya then!"

If you are going to go into CI look for a town house in Park Row or the new ones behind the Suffolk Co. Ball Park other wise stay out of the area.

There are some rather nice houses in certain parts of North Amityville. It really depends on which block/neighborhood you go to.

I am familiar with Wyandanch and North Amityville since they are both in the town of Babylon where I live. But i'm not familiar with Central Islip and Brentwood so I just wanna know what input the people that live (or lived) in these areas have to say about it. I wanna know which place is better than the other so in the end when I decide to start seriously looking, I have a better idea of which one of these communities is most preferable to me.

(I chose those 4 areas since they have the most affordable housing options.)

I think it is great that you are looking to build equity, but real estate is like any other investment. You have to buy something that will retain it's value, and hopefully appreciate somewhat. This is a good time for buyers. But in real estate, it is all about location, and, unfortunately, none of these towns are great locations. As you get older and have more income, and maybe consider starting a family, you are going to want to move and won't want to be saddled with a property that is difficult to sell. Do yourself a favor - look hard for other options in towns that will be appealing to others in your shoes in several years so when you are ready for something bigger and better you won't have to be delayed while you try to sell something that is difficult to sell.

HUH!? Those people who bought at the top would say otherwise. Houses are a losing venture, between mortgage, taxes, upkeep, etc. Better to save and put a bigger down payment to reduce the interest your going to pay.
