They protected our great nation and now they will patrol Suffolk county. Your neighborhoods, protecting your families in an environment that seems to be getting worse. Heroin, other misc. drugs, gangs, violent crimes, and a host of other societal problems. I read the seething hatred on this board and I have to assume it is probably a few of you also. I would pay 200k+ a year to have seasoned combat veterans on our streets battle domestic criminals. That is what they do and they are the best at it.

Just yesterday there was a hostage situation in Eastport, Yep Eastport. Go figure. Home invasion. Weapons. The whole 9 yards. SWAT.Trained professionals with long rifles surrounding the house. The school was locked down. Looks like everyone survived unscathed. Outstanding. You do that.It was on the cover of snoozeday. Yeah I read it. I admitted it again.

The thing is our finest got up and took a test that THOUSANDS participated in and succeeded. over 30,000. When I resided in Dallas/ Ft worth there were four large departments in the metroplex that combined their testing to save money....they also cut their salaries. By the time all was said and done they had maybe 50 applicants. It was a problem. I'm sure they didn't have the cream of the crop. And don't kid yourself, The DFW Metroplex is a large populated area.

To my knowledge there is a test coming up sometime in the spring. If you think you have what it takes then go for it. I'm glad they have a High school diploma requirement, It opens testing to a much larger pool of candidates. My guess is most of you posting anti law enforcement and teaching are too self loathing to appreciate what it takes to actually earn something. Even if you don't want to be a cop just take the test, see how you do.

The problem isn't the salaries. It your general politicians, democrats, and New York large government and social welfare programs. Cut those and maybe everything else would come into line. If you don't like the situation then move. That's it, done. I came here for the fat New York salary when no one else wanted it which will apply towards my retirement. Then I'm going to get the heck out of this third world liberal country. Most of my associates didn't want it. The transfer wasn't worth it to many who know what the situation was and didn't want to raise their families here. I don't blame them. I feel like I was bribed. Even federal jobs pay higher here. They go on regional cost of living allowances and in New york it can be even higher than the actual salaries just to get employees to reside here. And by living here It's still almost not worth it.

Anyway you amuse me. The angrier some of you get the happier I am that they are between us and you.

carry on with your temper tantrums.
Although I don't agree with everything you say--I'm pretty liberal--I can see where you are coming from and I appreciate your sentiments.

It's so easy to rant, rave, and be shrill. It's not so easy to put one's money, and life, where one's mouth is.

I don't know Avi. I like you and agree with just about everything you post. Actually I can't recall anything I don't agree with. I'm betting your a fun liberal. A person with a liberating and carefree type of attitude that makes a party fun.

I'm referring to the uber liberal. The type that want to instill an oppressing socialistic totalitarian type of government that just ruins that party.

Many people on this board would look at a fat man standing beside a thin one and would come to the conclusion that the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one.

Wow the more I read this message board, the more depressed I get for the future of Long Island. Let's review some of the brilliant statements that were posted here:Someone said they would pay $200k+ for seasoned combat veterans on our streets. Yikes - welcome to Hitler's Germany! We don't need the military patrolling the streets of a suburb. We need good police, which is a different skill set and demeanor than a combat veteran. Yes some veterans make great cops, but not all veterans should be cops nor do we civilians need to be treated like we are in a battle field. And about the highly intelligent $200k+ comment - first of all a number of cops already make that.
Secondly, that amount cannot be justified in a fair market. A cop should be paid double what the average household makes? Please, how ridiculous.About 50 applicants for a DFW police gig - provide support. We are far from that here on LI with 30,000 applicants for 100 positions. Let's split the difference and get to 15,000 applicants and we'll still be fine. Now for the statement that those who post against the ridiculous salaries of teachers and police are anti LE or teachers is just plain ignorant. I'm as pro LE as it gets, but I do not support the salaries that are out of touch with reality.
Another one: don't blame the salaries, blame the politicians! I almost had a heart attack laughing so hard at this. So if salaries were cut 30% the taxes would be reasonable again here on LI, but you expect me to not blame salaries? Talk about bait and switch, how transparent! And lastly, to the egg head who said that people should just "do something about it", that's what posting on here is all about. I didn't realize how crazy the compensation for NCPD and teachers were until 3 months ago when my co-worker showed me this website. The first step is to educate people. Once enough people fully understand what's going on, and can see through the BS lies that the PBA spews (I addressed a number of those lies above), we can begin to get this issues on our politicians' radar and let them know that we will support their efforts to reduce police and teacher pay to make all of our taxes more affordable.

Except you can blame the fat man for being fat by taking advantage of the thin man if the fat man (PBA/teachers union) took advantage of the skinny man (tax payers).

What?! You mean you're not totally psyched that the same people known for high rate of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, who spent their formative years in a rigid, authoritarian hierarchy becoming the world's foremost killing machines, are gonna be running around the streets with guns and badges? For $200k a year? That you will have to pay? Pshhh....

(Sorry dman72 I'm jacking your swagger right here...)

TYPICAL RESPONSE: WHAT?! YOU MUST HATE OUR COUNTRY!! YOU SHOULD BE GETTING DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND OPENING WIDE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DEFENDED FREEDOM FOR YOUR LIBERAL SOCIALIST ASS!! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT "LIBERTY" EVEN MEANS?! Support the troops 9/11 nevar 4get.

I'll say over and over and over and ooooooovvvveeeerrr again.....if there is some way to fix Long Island's tax issues and still pay teachers and cops the cost of an off-lease Rolls-Royce each year, I think that would be great. I have nothing....NOTHING against teachers or cops or them earning a decent living. That said, it's just not possible. The numbers are out there (thank you SeeThroughNY.net!) if anybody thinks they can prove otherwise. We're keeping an incredibly small segment of population paid very well at the expense of an entire region. I have a problem with the taxes, the people they're going towards paying are just a byproduct of that.

TYPICAL RESPONSE: Sounds like you have a criminal past and a problem with authority. You just want lower paid police on the streets so you can have an easier time getting away with your crimes.

I didn't realize how out of hand things have gotten until I discovered this forum either. It's better for the unions if the masses are kept in the dark, and C-D is really one of the only places on the internet to discuss this topic. The last time I posted this information I received an "infraction" for a "personal attack", but here goes anyway: this website is ALWAYS amongst the top search results on Google for any Long Island tax, school district, police, etc. issue. It's 2011, this is the way the world interacts....I don't know what else we're supposed to do? March up and down the street with banners shouting things at passing cars? Look like idiots? Nail a list of "demands" to the front door of NCPD headquarters? Overthrow the government and implant Chris Christie as our supreme leader?

This method seems to be having at least some noticeable effect.....the topic is in the news constantly, it's apparently a priority for our new Governor. "What difference does whining on a message board make?" - PLENTY! Outside of C-D, any (real) person I've had a conversation with about our precarious financial state over the last 2 years has heard all about school districts, police departments, etc. from me - and I can't recall anyone (not related to a cop or teacher) who disagreed. But no, it "won't make a difference" unless we have public beheadings and start riots.....please

TYPICAL RESPONSE: There's nothing you can do the contracts are negotiated by a collective bargaining agreement blah blah blah you don't know anything.....labor relations procedural minutiae, etc. Why don't you try stepping away from the computer and actually doing something, or better yet form your own union and make your private sector corporate slave wage employer pay you more than minimum wage so you can afford to live here.

Your training here is done. Go out, and make the world a better place. There is nothing more we can teach you here

actually, i think its the people trying to pad their retirement not the people who are making the big arrests. nice try though.
