She moved to Florida to be closer to my niece and nephew-in-law as they started their family. She didn't have any problems with Patchogue, other than the same problems people have whenever they deal with Fairfield Properties, which was her co-op's property manager at the time. She liked the area itself just fine.
She moved back about a year ago, not Patchogue, but close. There just wasn't any work in her field in Florida. Fortunately, my niece and her family got out of Florida, too, and live closer up the east coast, so everyone can visit much more easily. I don't think any of them want to set foot in Florida again!
Thats funny, I thought Florida was "The place to go" because of it's weather, low property taxes, no state income tax, and cheap apartments and houses.

Sure, it's the place to go.
To die.
Seriously, though, from what they told me, and what I've heard from quite a few people who went there and came back, the educational system there is the pits, the racial tension is ridiculous, and the weather is good for only a few months a year unless you like 90-degree heat with high humidity, not to mention the hurricanes. They just didn't like it, or all the crazy motorists with blue hair and glaucoma who should have given up driving 10 years ago.
However, if you're over 70, cranky, and a tightwad, south Florida is perfect.
I've been to both. And while Dix Hills may have more of a surface attraction, in my opinion it is every bad stereotype about long island without having to make the trip to the Hamptons.

At least with Patchogue you don't have to leave your zip code for a store or every day needs...
I wouldn't live in Dix Hills due to the inconvenience factor alone. Why not just buy in Commack? People that live in DH go there for everything anyway...
Really? So where do I go when I want a night out with friends in Dix Hills?
Patchogue! there. We win.
