Seems logical to name a school in a minority school district after our first minority president. Sorry that you hate his politics enough to disregard that part.
Students at the school petitioned for the name change and the district approved the change unanimously in late November 2008
So he hadn't spent a single day in the WH or played a single round of Presidential golf when this occurred? And the K-5th Grade students petitioned for the name change? Oh yeah, I believe that ....... LOL!

funny how in 2008, the minorities wanted him as president and now the minorities want him out. it just goes to show you, dont believe everything a presidential candidate promises you.
"On February 4, 2009, the Hempstead school district officially renamed Ludlum Elementary School to Barack Obama Elementary School. Students at the school petitioned for the name change and the district approved the change unanimously in late November 2008. Obama Elementary is the first U.S. school to be named in honor of President Obama." Hempstead (village), New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This was three years ago! What's the point of bringing it up now?
I think we all know the answer to your question.
A court house was named after Al D'Amato, what's the problem with this.

Sorry that this thread took a racist bent. That wasn't my intention in bringing it up. As I explained to a previous poster, I think it silly to name buildings after living people. I gave the example that Ronald Reagan's namesakes seemed equally inappropriate to me until after he died. I actually like President Obama

You bring up the naming of a school 3 years later and the day after the supreme court decision and you're surprised at racists remarks, really?

Concure and I think it's stupid the way elected officials retain their former titles for eternity. One term as Governor, Mayor, President etc does not make it whatever emeretis for life.
