Hello,

I am getting a house buit in the town of hempstead and I have an option if I want to do a circular driveway in front of my property? Will my taxes be more when they reaccessed the property weather or not I do a circular driveway?

Thanks for your help

You're building a house and you're worried what a driveway will do to your taxes??? That's the least of your worries.

The saying is: "I have enough worries, I don't need any more"

The taxes on the house you are building will be significantly more than the old house (tear down) that used to be on the lot just on the fact that it is a brand new house. I have never heard of the type of driveway you have (straight, circular, etc.) affecting taxes one way or the other.

Driveways are taxable in ToH if built of concrete or pavers.

Does the shape of the driveway affect the tax rate?

Sq ft is all that matters.

I just asked this question to a friend of mine who is a councilman on the town board where i live. In our township, they can not tax a new home anymore than a reasonably similar assesed home in the same area with the same sq footage and so on. It all depends on the size of the new home vs. the old home being torn down. If the old home was recently assessed and the new home is smaller, the taxes could actually be much lower depending on comparable homes of the same size in the same area. Unless i was told mis-imformation, newly built homes being taxed up the butt hole is just a myth.
