1. Has anyone received a reimbursement check from their insurance company yet. (specifically roof) The insurance adjustor is coming out tomorrow. I am wondering how long they take from the time the come out to the time they send you a check if at all.
2. On another note does anyone have an average of how much they are reimbursing people for items like a roof or storm door. The door shattered in the storm and I lost a lot of singles on the roof on both sides of the ridge. My house would stick out like a sore thumb if they were to say patch the roof since they don't make the singles anymore and it would need to be patched in so many spots. I am hoping it's not a giant fight with them.
After Irene, my adjuster inspected exterior & interior damage, sat in her vehicle for about 45 minutes & printed out (in her car) about 30 pages of damage report. She handed over a check that she herself wrote after we looked over that report - possible after signing something (can't remember). Deposited about an hour after she left.
I think a lot depends on the insurance co. I can tell you from having a roof damaged from tornado. There were 188 shingles damaged and they would not authorize for me to fet a new roof. I fought and argued to know avail. They do have the ability to cut you a check if there is no doubt that you have enough damage to your roof to warrant a new one,
When I complained about the difference in color, I was told it will eventually all become on the same color
Good luck. just know that once you accept the check you accept their accessmenet

That's insane. I thought they could not leave your roof looking like a UN unity blanket.
I am not in Long Island. But, I have been involved personally w/ disaster related insurance payments. We had a flood disaster in 97,' w/ damage mostly exclusive to the basement, but also some main floor, of our primary residence. We were not happy w/ our insurance estimate of only $5,000...We had American Family...I've not had that since.
In my state, N.D. lots of complaints went out when certain ins. companies were not seemingly doing the right thing. Our state insurance commissioner made it his business to take this to task. Needless to say, many things improved. But, it was too late for my home, since I'd already accepted the check.
Don't be afraid to contact your state's insurance commissioner if things don't seem right regarding your benefits.
I had a roof replacement from straight line winds on my rental home, and my insurance co. SafeCo benefits paid for a new roof. I just provided the estimate. I received a check within a week.
I also had my primary residence, and my car damaged by a hail storm a few years later...Both the roof and the car were inspected w/in a reasonable amount of time. The car inspection happened a coupe of days following my roof inspection. Roof had minimal damages, car had lots of hail dents. The adjuster came, looked at my car, discussed my roof as well and wrote me a check on the spot at my place of employment, including a bit more because of the damage to both my home and car. I am staying w/ this company, and would certainly recommend it based on my experiences.
I hope for a speedy recovery to all affected by the recent disasters in your area. God bless, jannd

What if there is a deductible on your policy? Is the check amount minus the deductible? I lost a few shingles (under 50) from Sandy but I have a $1000 deductible. Is it worth calling the insurance company or just fix it myself? thanks.

Is that all the damage you have? What about food spoilage. Alot of companies cover that too and your deductible doesn't apply to it. If it is just your shingles then I would not put in a claim as it will most likely be under your deductible.

Thanks for all the updates. TMing. I want to know if you have a uncle that works at lipa. Just kidding. I would call a roofer and find out what it will cost you first then decide if it's worth a fight with your insurance company. Like the other op said it may not be worth it.
