That's not what he said

He was saying that unreasonably low speed limits are part of an overarching problem with the government-- speed limits are just a component.

The LIE would be the only parkway on LI that would support 65, the difference between that and the present speed amounts to minutes. If you make it 65 cars will be doing 80, cars on the Southern State are already doing 70+. No one is getting stopped on the LIE for doing 70 for the most part.

Its an expressway .

Parkways in LI dont have sufficient shoulders to support 65 mph. We the people of NJ are lucky to have a 65 MPH parkway throughout .

They did the whole intensive study and found it unnecessary to raise the speed limit and that was that. If obeying the speed limits it would only save a few minutes. It would also be open season on 85mph being the norm.

You know how fast I drive on the LIE and the 55mph limit? 70.

You know how fast I drive on the roads further north in NY, CT and VT where the limit is 65-70? 70.

I don't just automatically bump my speed by 20mph depending on the posted limit. I have no idea where this mentality came from.

Just for the record guys, there are no 70 mph speed limits in NY. Western PA is implementing them this summer for all I know. Long island should not be shaded in pink. That's misleading for all we know. Why does Texas get special preference in this regard .

Here is the Map:

Unfortunately many knuckleheads do.
Most cops will give some slack, anywhere from 5-10mph over the posted limit.
On the LIE for example, you have a posted 55. Dead average is 70. An increase to 65 is going to be easily into the 80's for alot of these morons.
