We are potentially moving to Long Island for a job opportunity. Our daughter (5th grade) is currently going to a private school (in MA) and we are undecided if we would go public or private in Long Island. Any feedback on the Portledge School, preferably from own experience? Thank you!
Realize that no private school on LI compares to Groton, Andover, Exeter, etc... in terms of it's student outcomes nor social connections.
Rather the top public school districts on LI (Jericho, Great Neck, Manhassett, Three Village...) easily compare to the top private schools in the US. Every (I mean EVERY), SD on LI provides the opportunity to study a full complement of AP/IB courses, languages, orchestra, band, plays, trips abroad, counseling, small class sizes, etc...
If you want to spend your $30k per year at Portledge to make sure your kid goes to school with other kids whose parents can afford an extra $30k for private middle school, in addition to the $10k for public middle school you will need to fork up her on LI, then go for it!
