The government planned for this. Why do you think we have all those unused bike lanes?

I'm not a Conductor, or making any representation of them. Do you think this is all they do? It's just what you SEE them do.

As for rates of pay, taken right from the employment website at BNSF (A private, profitting railroad):

Salary/Benefits: The training pay rate averages approximately $800 per week. Upon completion of training, earn up to $41,000 during the first year. Thereafter, the average conductor earns $68,000. BNSF employees receive an annual benefit package valued at $22,000. The terms of the collective bargaining agreement shall apply.

Thats $32.69/hr plus benefits. A LIRR conductor is $31.85/hr The BNSF rate is in the mid-western USA, where the cost of living is a fraction of what it here on LI.

Do you really want us to call Cuomo and demand that the LIRR conductors get paid what the rest of the industry gets?

What about parking at JFK and taking the airtrain to Jamaica then to the E train? Or would it be faster to drive to Citifield (from the southshore) and take the 7 train?

I'd be a little more inclined to support these workers getting a better salary if there weren't employees stating that they want to 'shut this island down'.

Yep. Everyone should walk 35 miles or so to Manhattan.

We also have ample sidewalks on every road, especially the main roads.

have you ever driven on the Belt Pkwy at rush hour? it CRAWLS!

I took car service to JFK in May during rush hour, it was extremely stressful. We literally inched along. Took about 20 minutes to go 2 miles.

Considering the gridlock, walking might get you there faster.

From Manhasset - how about Eastern Suffolk?

We don't get any buses in their contingency plan of course, so might as well start walking now I guess since they're so keen on 'shutting this island down'.
