I am off contract now which means I get that expensive rate on deliveries till I lock in on something.Otherwise would not care too much

If you are off contract then just do COD. You only need 60 gallons at most to make you till next fall anyways.

tell your current Oil company to stop Oil delivery and go with COD. Check out discount-fuel.com. Oil is at $2.239 for a 100 - 149 gal delivery. Cheaper the more you order.

Yup, but Last few days? Oil has been rising for over a month now after bottoming out at the end of Winter.

It's good I filled up in February. The drop couldn't be sustained and went too far so I jumped on it. (only fill once a year (got a Wood Stove)

As far as whether you should lock.. If you don't want to play the up and down game I think a lock here is ok. Think about how low we still are from years of high prices. Worst comes to worse and it drops hard again, (not sure if Long Island has many companies like CT but) you can always exit out of who your with and find someone else to lock a rate if it does drop majorly again.

Probably not worth a change for a few cents so Im talking about dollars difference.

On that note, make sure there's no penalty for cancelling your contract.

Try the "Cap" option as well.

I got a lock quote yesterday morning, good till April 16. Oil went up yesterday and a lot today.

Normally summer oil does fall in price. However, summer 2013 and summer 2014 both times oil was high in the summer which was unusual. This year heating oil was at its cheapest in Jan-March during one of the coldest winters ever.

Go figure OIL is all over the place now.

I am only going to lock as not worth headache watching this too long and also I went 18 months without servicing unit and I have an appointment next month. If I go COD and something is wrong with burner I could end up losing money trying to save money.

All the oil companies seem to have a delay a few days raising contract prices when oil shoots up and also when oil goes down they delay cutting prices. If oil rises again tommorow 2.59 rates with a free contract will be gone for awhile

Meenans and Petro both raised their ceiling and fixed rate this morning. Guess yesterdays jump in oil prices bumped it up a bit

Oil climbs over 12% during six-session streak of gains

So it is safe to say 7 days ago was an excellent time to lock in a heating oil contract.

Oil moves so quick

Prices instantly go up, but down??? Takes weeks. Don't stress it, oil might be down to mid 40's by next month.
