Another thread (I think the Rocky Point thread) sparked my curiousity about deer on LI.

Have you seen deer on LI and if so where?

I have seen deer in Montauk at the lighthouse and of course the state park on the way to the lighthouse. I also think we saw deer in Hechsher State park in Islip (not 100% sure on this).

How do you feel about a rising deer population on LI and the huge risk of deer ticks carrying lyme disease (as well as many more diseases)?

I live in Ridge now & we have tons of deer. I see them everyday, in fact I'll probably see at least one dead one on the road on the way to work this morning. I also see them in calverton, riverhead, flanders, baiting hollow, wading river, jamesport, southold-pretty much the whole north fork. My DH works in the hamptons & he sees over 50 a day. He has been face to face with a ten point buck on a vacant lot in sagaponak.
We used to live in Oakdale & we often saw them in & around Connetquot state park & heckser State park. I've also seen them in Yaphank near the county farm.
We hike in the state park that borders our neighborhood every week & the ticks are a big problem, as well as chiggers & other pest bugs that host on them.
We use nontoxic bug spray, wear proper clothing & check ourselves & shower as soon as we get home. My dog contracted Lyme last year & was treated.

We live in Medford ; on the Yaphank side and deer come up to our fence daily. Also the houses here that do not have fence have deer in the front yards daily.

We have never had a tick in our yard ; but then we do spray.

I've seen them as far west as Cove Neck, near Sagamore Hill. There are tons of deer at the west end of Fire Island near the lighthouse.

Saw a deer on the beach at Robert Moses. It walked through the beachgoers and then curled up under the lifeguard stand.

Spouse saw one several weeks ago on Woodbury Road in Syosset, driving to work in busy rush hour traffic. He was totally shocked. I was going to start the same thread!

What do you spray and how often do you do it?

I know it is a heated debate but how you do you all feel about "keeping" the deer population controlled by use of hunters or marksmen? I do not know how I feel. I am trying to figure that out.

We spray the property about 3 - 4 times a year.
