According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average Long Island teacher earns $90,000 per year.

On average, Long Island teachers spent less than 1200 hours per year in the classroom. Let's give them a huge benefit of the doubt and say they spend an additional 300 hours doing out of class work, i.e. prep/grading - that's 1500 total, or 30 hrs/week over 50 weeks.

Consequentially, that means the average LI teacher makes $60/hour plus benefits for a relatively easy, low stress, low demand job.

Teaching time: A new study finds that American teachers don't actually work much longer hours than their international peers.

You don't live here, why do you care? Go stir up a hornets nest in a PA forum.

Is that prior to federal, state, and local property taxes here on Long Island? If so, I'd say it is a bit low. If it is net that seems about right. Nice post ny789987.

YES. In fact they are grossly overpaid. Now welcome to Long Island and enjoy the screwing as they will always get there raises no matter what and your tax bill will never stop increasing.

Yes, my tax bill never stops increasing, and I don't even have any children. I pay these people for nothing.
