Don't move to Long Island! There are enough people in Nassau county. It's a congested mess. Move to Connecticut.

East Williston fits your budget. Its LIRR accessbile but I don't know if its convenient like the Port Washington line is.

You can totally get a home in Garden City in that price point. That was my same price point and I just purchased in May of this year. The train ride from the Stewart Manor stop is sub 40 mins -- one thing is that you might want to stick to the Western Section of GC for a shorter commute into Penn (further into GC has a longer ride). So far I really like the area; I had moved from Queens.

Manhasset is good too but I think more expensive. mixed
Garden City is good but commute is like 40-50 mins. 98% white
Herricks/New Hyde Park has good schools but you won't be able to park at the New Hyde Park LIRR Train station unless you are a resident of Village of New Hyde Park. Some New Hyde Park houses have Herricks school district but you will have problems parking since it's not the village of NHP. Lots of asians
Thank you, Ubering. Manhasset is way out of my price range. I'm not sure about Great Neck, I've heard is very "keep up with the Joneses" type of town, I prefer something more low key. I will look into Herricks/New Hyde Park. Thanks again!

Maybe RVC or Williston Park.

Merrick or Wantagh too.
Thank you, Kbinspections. I don't know anything about Williston Park, is it a nice place to raise a family? RVC and Merrick look ok on paper but taxes could be very high depending on the property, $23,000 to $25,000 which is out of the question for my current situation.

It's laughable how little 875 gets you around here....

You are correct, that is important! 3 bedrooms, 2 baths will do. Yes to garage and basement. Ok if the basement is not finished. Absolutely NO to a busy street, I have two kids, 2 & 4. I'm ok with something that needs some updating but not a total gut job.

Thanks, Liz, good to know! I have friends close to the Stewart Manor station with GC schools. I will look into this area.

I actually purchased in Stewart Manor but on the border of GC and have GC schools - if you can find one on Fernwood it's a good option. Most of them go for sale by owner (how I got mine). I got a 4 bedroom (large bedrooms) with 2.5 baths and basement - all updated at the price you are looking at. Great quiet neighborhood and everyone is very friendly and watches out for each other. As others have mentioned, it is very white so a change from where I used to live, but I had no issue with that. Taxes are also under $15k for most houses, with a 50 x 100 lot. I liked this area much better than Great Neck and other areas mentioned (personal opinion that is) and you are close to lots of amenities (w/a lot that is actually walking). The homes in New Hyde Park are nice too, just tend to me smaller & not as many walking distance to the LIRR (which was a sticking point for me). You can also walk to NHP LIRR from the Western Section, which is a nice plus to have more train options. Good luck!
