Okay, I thought it was more than that. To think that a graphic artist won't ever make a spelling error is unrealistic. Editors generally don't involved in such matters, proofreaders do, and they make mistakes too. Hardly a reason to stop reading the paper.
It was the final nail in the coffin. There had been multiple spelling errors leading up to the "Mellville" incident that a proofreader should have caught, but did not.
That's because the FCC did away with that regulation where if an opinion was expressed on the air, a counter-opinion also had to be expressed in the same program. When that went out the window, the audience had to change channels to hear the counter opinion. And even then, it's not necessarily based on complete facts. In a way, ironically by doing away with government regulation of the airways and having less government interference, we are becoming more like a dictatorial type of nation where it's all propaganda and someone's agenda is being forced on the public-like they had in the Soviet Union.
Why consider LI if you don't need to be here for a NYC job? Look at the geography. Water levels are rising and storms are getting stronger. If you're looking to be close to the city, surrounding areas on the mainland better value and you wouldn't be trapped here by the NYC bottleneck. It costs almost $30 to get off of LI and into NJ.
Price is largely dictated by school district and proximity to NYC. The LI job market has been decimated by the aerospace industry leaving and taxes that will shock you. The local governments literally bribe companies to stay/relocate here because it's a terrible place to do business. Homeowners make up the tax shortfall.
Suffolk is cheaper and more pleasant than Nassau, largely because of less density and it's far from the city. Traffic is terrible and Nassau is so broke they can't maintain the roads.
On the plus side, there's plenty of food variety, culture and quality schools here. The beaches are nice, but not nicer than in Santa Monica.
Also, people are grumpy here. Move to LI and you'll understand.
Your opinion. I love Nassau. Wouldn't live in Suffolk if you paid me... something to be said also about being within the shadow of NYC...
I beg to differ on the beaches as well. You're entitled to your opinion... but I have traveled all over the country & the world and LI has some of the most amazing beaches I have seen.
I feel very lucky & privileged to live in Nassau County... just my 2 cents.
House #2: New construction 4bdr/2 bath house in Indianapolis (with a way bigger lawn than the first house AND a 2 car garage):
- Cost: $149,000
- OUT OF STATE
A buyer for the first house can just take their 20% down payment, buy the entire second house full-out with cash and STILL have $26,000 left to spare!! This $26k will probably take care of the taxes for the next few decades..
These houses were not cherry-picked either. A'll represent what new houses commonly cost in their respective region.
Well, I happen to agree with a lot of what Newsday reports. Even if I didn't, the paper gives a fuller picture of both counties than we do. Not all reporting is political, or needs to be.
Newsday is a leftist tabloid rag. Might as well read Pravda.

Curious as to what qualifies as amazing...I’ve been to beaches in Australia, Asia, Caribbean, South America, etc. and I’d say that this
Fair enough, horses for courses. I still think nothing on LI compares to Bondi Beach.
