Out of the blue, an inspector knocked on my door. Said they received a complaint that work was being done w/o permit(s). Asked if he can come in. I (stupidly?) let him in. He took some pics.

We had done the following (no walls were knocked nor added & house sq footage remained same):
- updated existing kitchen cabinets & counter top to new ones
- replaced old kitchen floor tiles with new
- updated all existing bathrooms (didn't move plumbing/electrical...just replaced old shower stall, tub,
vanities with new)
- bought new fridge, stove, washer, dryer
- painted all interior walls
- refinished all wood floors

2 questions:
Would it had been OK had I denied him entry?
Do I need to be concerned about the above renovations (asking since pics were taken)?

This is in TOB. Appreciate all replies & thanks in advance.

1) yes. I would have asked about specifics of the complaint. Then verbally said you were just redoing the floors and kitchen cabinets with new appliances.

2) no, if ALL bathrooms are covered under existing COs. But if one of yours is a bonus bathroom or basement one you could have an issue.

TOB is Brookhaven or Babylon?

Thanks for the response MJ68.
All 2.5 bathrooms are listed in the town records. He even said house should only have plumbing for 3.
For some reason, he took pic of the master bedroom. It's one of those that's located on a level separate from the other bedrooms. Probably used to be the attic. One of the full baths is on this top level also.
TOB - Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County.

Never ever let them in unless they are holding a court order or warrant.

I don't know how. Somehow this will end up costing your $$. Those bloodsucking leaches in oyster bay will find a way. Dont be shocked if your house is assesd higher since they now know you have done renovations.

Moderator cut: language removed Now I'm getting nervous. Shouldn't have let him in.

Listen, what's done is done. Nothing more you can do about it now but make sure you grieve your taxes every year. Especially if you live in Nassau. Effing Nassau is run by a bunch of crooks.

You will get dinged for something. Can’t go back on it now.

Never let an inspector in. Ever.
