Huntington Station has some VERY lovely areas. As Tom Moser said....you paint with a very broad brush.
And then there is the Baldwin thread and the East Northport thread.....
Some people own homes in these places and you come on here and rip their towns apart! That is awful. Just plain awful.
While my in-laws lived in a very nice part some parts of HS have been known as bad spots for quite a long time. I've had friends who lived close to the actual station and it was a rough part of town with run down houses, robberies, broken families and drug use. I was also volunteering with Campus Life back in the 80's and most of the kids in the area were what we'd now call "at risk". Considering that is generally the public face of HS I can see how the place does get broad brushed, and it's a image that's been pinned to the place for decades. And that alone will make it hard for the place to shake it's spotty image.
It's not opinions, it's FACT. Do you live in Huntington Village or Huntington Station?
I find it VERY hard to believe that you are blind to these problems in Huntington Station. Do you not read the newspaper or watch the news? Shootings. MS-13 busts. Rapes. This is not opinion, these are actual crimes happening!
Here is a double stabbing from last week:

So yes, people are going to let people who are thinking of moving into the area and have no local knowledge know about these issues. Of course you don't want to bring property values down, you're a Realtor.
Now, if you really want to revitalize Huntington Station and it's bad reputation, it would do better to inform yourself of it's problems, and get involved with the community and try to make a difference. Turning a blind eye will not help!
I wish someone would have let me know ahead of time! We almost bought a house right off 110 and I would have been incredibly unhappy.

I don't know if you're confusing me with someone else, but I'm very happy with where I live!
Not happy with people who are extreme on any side, sugar coating a place as perfect when it has obvious issues, or saying a place is SUPER dangerous when it's not.
There is always a silver lining: The good new is that the bad reputation that Huntington Station has (based on the pockets of low income/crime/absentee landlords) keeps the prices very modest in the very nice areas of Huntington Station. You can get some fabulous deals on really nice houses. I would invite anyone to tour the Maplewood section of Huntington Station and give me their opinion.
Tom, Where's the Maplewood section? A couple of cross streets and a zip code would do.
It is bordered roughly by Pulaski Road on the North, Jericho Turnpike on the South, Park Avenue on the East, and Lenox Road on the West. It gets it's name from Maplewood Road which runs through it diagonally from the Northeast portion to the Southwest portion.
If you mapquest for Maplewood Rd. 11746 or Lodge Ave 11746 you'll get a pretty good idea.
said to NewtoLI.
Was this necessary? Yes, people ARE happy here, please don't start that again. Let's stay on TOPIC, and the topic is Huntington Station, not your accusation of someone being unhappy in general.

Well said NewtoLI. I don't know why anyone accuse you of being unhappy unless they were looking to stir up the pot again here on the LI board...hmmm.
Back to the topic...

BTW, The story referenced yesterday about the HUNTINGTON INITIATIVE of District Attorney Tom Spota where he announced 158 Arrests in Huntington Station was from 2004.

And the 94K went to the Tri Community and Youth Agency whoever they may be.
So how much recent activity is really going on in regards to the gang problem in HS? Is there really one or just the same old garbage in the same areas of HS?

BTW, Here's a recent story on gang arrests on the Island.
Sorry folks, no mention of Huntington Station.
