If someone is that stupid, they shouldn’t be driving.

Too much money 50 years ago when the elevated Babylon.

There is a infrastructure project that will employee thousands of Long Islanders, instead of building that stupid wall, but I digress.

Wasn't there a similar accident what 30-40 years ago in Williston Park which resulted in a road dug under the tracks.
That was the Herricks crossing, just north of OCR in Mineola. Van full of high schoolers. But it was at least another 15 years till they changed the grade crossing. There were also multiple accidents there - at rush hour the gates were continually down and people were always going around.

This crossing on School St is supposed to be eliminated with the 3rd track project.

All I know is, I woke up saw the news, checked the trains, took the picture of cancellations and called out from work.
Any times this sort of things happen, its a day off for me.

So no complaints here. Feel bad for the clean up crew all who will suffer from delays.

I'll disagree, there is adequate signals and crossing barriers if a driver doesn't have basic common sense the MTA shouldn't have to waste money to eliminate at grade crossings.

The should eliminate the grade crossings. But now, with everything built out, that would be a huge process.

They probably should at least change the crossing gates to fully close the road when they come down, so they can't be driven around.

If you grow up on LI, you know to stop at RR crossings. It is so ingrained it's like stopping at a red light in other parts of the country.
