I am going to make this easy. The two greatest places to eat pizza not only on LI, but in the whole tri-state area are 1. Salvatores in Port Washington. and 2. The Pie at Salvatores in downtown Bayshore. The guy that runs Salvatores is named Freddy, and he is the great nephew of Patsy, the gentleman who started Patsys; of which Sinatra was a regular. Each red plum tomato is inspected closely by hand ,and all ingredients made from scratch. The pies are made in a combo brick and coal oven which also adds to their virtuosity. I've taken people from Italy there and they were blown away! The ambience for both places, particularly Bay Shore location is second to none. If you go to the Port Washington location make sure to try and get the table close to the coal/brick oven especially on a cold winter day. You can feel the heat radiate off it as you enjoy your piece of heaven on earth.
Ill make this easy for you but you gotta get outta Nassau son.
1)Colisseo
2)Little Vincents
2)Spumoni Gardens Brookyn
I've been to all those places and they can't hold a candle to Salvatores.
I eat my pizza made only in an authentic Italian, Coal-Fired Brick Oven with Lava Rocks imported from Mount Vesuvius .
Which great LI pizza place is within reasonable walking distance from an LIRR stop? We do not want to drive to get there. Thanks.
Ancona on Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream. Ancona has been featured in Newsday's stories where the public votes on best pizza for years. You get off the LIRR at Valley Stream station and walk over to Rockaway Avenue and up a few blocks to Ancona.
They have been in business for several decades. They DO NOT DELIVER because if they did, they couldn't possibly serve all the business they would get. They are that good! They have booths in the front of the store you can sit in if you get your own food at the counter and also a back section that is waitress service.
They are EXTREMELY crowded on Fridays during Lent season. They also close the whole store for vacation for a week or two in August, so if you plan to go in August, be sure and call ahead to make sure they are open.

Youre high on lava rocks and I think theres a pretty good chance youre lying. Theres an entire Borough that would beat within inches of your life and dump you in Mt Vesuvius for such blasphemy.
(SG wouldve been #1 IMO..but its Bklyn. LI's clear victor is Colliseo....distant runner up Little Vincents)
ginos and carmellas in massapequa. mamas in copaigue.
I agree about Mamas in Copiague. I totally forgot about them. They're food is great but they treat their employees like crap. A few years ago their wait staff actually pursued a lawsuit against them b/c they weren't paying them wait staff minimum wage as their supposed too. Ever since then, the restaurant leaves a bad taste in my mouth b/c they are so darn greedy! Other than that though, their pizza is very good. Love their ala vodka slice.
