Isn't it only for New York City, Brooklyn & Queens? Long Island can still charge the broker fee, unless I am reading it wrong.

The listing agent/company cannot accept a fee from the tenant, only from the landlord; however, the renting agent/company can ask for their share of the fee from the tenant, as long as they represent the tenant.

In the end, the tenant will pay less if using the help of an agent.

Don't take what the newspapers are saying about this at face value. A deeper look at the TRO makes it seem as though the new laws remain, but the Dept of State is temporarily blocked from disciplining anyone. Still a bummer because the d-bags probably feel like they've already won.
