Twitter says they are coming back to Merrick en massee June 4th - 5 -6 pm at the Merrick LIRR.
Garden City, Floral Park and other Village police say they're guarding their villages with roof top sharp shooters.
Uniondale gun store had lines around the block.
Its pretty clear - Long Island does not want to be messed with & are sick and tired of this pretend protest.
Our elderly are also tired of sitting home, wondering if its safe to go to the damn store without running into a protest.
Its really enough now.
And knowing all this - Curran hasn't tried to alleviate tensions by throwing a curfew down until these protesters move on.
for all those who asked why citizens need ar-15's with 30 round clips ? now they know ...
i will bet the city and nassau and suffolk will be flooded with permit requests from those who were anti gun prior.
it was already shown you can't count on no one but you , protecting you , here in nyc

You have to take the Twitter posts with a grain of salt.
And none of us gets to decide why someone decides to protest or when it is enough.
Protest is part of American history....I am not out there protesting and surely don't agree with any violence or looting but protests are by nature disruptive.
I don't want to paint an entire hamlet with a broad brush. But. I can't say I'm surprised. By far the least welcoming experience I had while house hunting was in Merrick.
Yes. The Twitter posts about Merrick seem to reflect a similar sentiment.
We've had discussions here before - South Shore towns like Merrick, Wantagh, Massapequa have a reputation of being intolerant to people of color, especially black people. Levittown was built on racism/segregation. Robert Moses who built the roads was a racist (parkway crossing are purposely low so that city folks couldn't come out here via bus). Long Island was built on segregationist policies and that legacy exists to this day.
You can hear the counter protestors say "Go West" (in other words get out of my white town and march in Freeport).
I'd never live on the South Shore/in these towns for a variety of reasons but those Merrick residents are in a tough spot. They watched what happened to Uniondale, Freeport, etc. and don't want "their" town to become that. Lots of NYPD/NYFD and construction workers live in those South Shore towns. You just can't up and move in 2020 (white flight) like you could years ago and most folks in those South Shore towns could not afford to move to the North Shore and frankly speaking there is a much different culture in the North Shore towns....and those North Shore folks wouldn't want "their" town to become Wantagh or Merrick or populated with those kinds of people.
Years ago I was harrassed at the "rosa parks" bus station for taking pictures which was perfectly legal to do. The bus station is a "cage" surrounded by a sketchy part of Hempstead which made for great photos. Parks was "the first lady, or mother, of freedom and civil rights" for refusing to "take her place" at the back of a bus.
There was a full on - justified reason for her making a stand against injustice happening to lots of people. In contrast I had an ironic and amusing one off experience.
The security guard infringing my rights did not know who rosa parks was! The amusing irony of a black guy violating a white guys civil rights at the rosa parks station (i. A cage to provide safety in an unsafe neighborhood)was lost to him. Not wanting to be violated further by the police ( a threat he was making) I demurred and moved on.
What is happening now is organized kafavve. Stirring up the situation was the whole point. Triggered people is the objective.
Antifa wants useful idiots everywhere to confront each other.
Anti-fascism is in fact fascism. Dont be useful idiot ignore the whole thing.
Ignore this nonsense and foolishness and move on..

You just can’t up and move? Tell that to the thousands that left the state last year (largest population decline in the US). It’s a huge country. There will always be places to move to beyond another overtaxed LI town.

I think he meant moving within Long Island because there are so many factors driving the decision where to live there (many of which were pointed out in his post). In the time we lived in GC I think two new kids moved in while my kids are were in school there. No, three.
Contrast that with here, new people moving in all the time but also people moving within the town (or between towns) without giving it a second thought. Even if it means their kids switch schools. The idea of buying a house here and staying in it till retirement is almost unheard of. When the HS graduation signs go up, often so do the "for sale" signs.
Buying and selling is so much simpler outside NY and people aren't so strapped for cash that most people I know buy their new house and move in before selling their old one. Friends of mine just did it and they don't even make a ton of money.
Ahhhh......Long Island....showing you don't need hills to be a hillbilly since 1967.
