I get your sarcasm, but methinks it's a name recognition thing. Great state schools like those mentioned above (except Cornell, or Downstate by medical/nursing students) are unknown in the midwest, south and west. Many folks think NYU is the state university.
Just like we don't know about great schools like UC Davis.
Prospective students in the mid-west who want to major in music will know about SUNY Fredonia. Any NY kid who wants to major in a field related to the study with animals will know about UC Davis.

Except that the "expert" making such bogus claims used to live here and is still ignorant of the facts.

LI kids might know about Fredonia but they don’t want to go there.
or Cornell. Some have, some haven't. As if that matters.
I hear ya but often wonder if an engineering manager staffing a project in Austin or Charlotte sees two resumes (one a GT grad, the other a SUNY grad) if that will influence his/her decision.
Believe me I'm with you , SUNY schools are great value - and getting even better .

No. It's an extremely competitive music program, as I stated in my first post. Anyone wanting to major in music would be very, very happy with a degree from Fredonia. Many professional performers studied with Fredonia Faculty. I don't know about Long Island kids, but nationally, this school is well-known for its music program. It's probably on a par with the University of North Texas College of Music, Oberlin, maybe Peabody in Baltimore.
