What's needed is some pressure on elected officials. Maybe CD is good for getting it going but posts here are not by themselves going to get it done. Pools and tennis reopened after a threatened shut-show.

It's not a binary choice of "REOPEN EVERYTHING" versus "LOCK DOWN." We've been in Phase 3 for a week, and we're seeing from other states what happens when people don't take it seriously.

We are transplants from LI, to Florida, and have lived in Poconos for past 3 years. Just about all of PA, except Philly, in 3rd Green Stage. No 4th here. Just about everything is now open, even casinos. However, PA has had an uptick in new cases. So does this mean Cuomo is going quarantine a neighboring state with his ever increasing list of of MANADATORY 14 day quarantine or fines from other states? Put the National Guard across the GWB or Lincoln Tunnel?

Our kids and grandkids live on LI. We go, and have been going, back and forth to see each other. Usually just for the day. Early on here in PA we had signs on roadways stating, "NYC (?) Travelers must quarantine for 14 days". Was this enforced like Cuomo thinks he can do? Hell, NO. Our cases have SPIKED but haven't heard anything about shutting down again. Driving around here the other day, we were the only car with PA plates; NY or NJ everywhere. How does Cuomo like that? Escaping somewhere nearby not shut down.

Our 4 year old Grandson is Autistic. He has been regressing since schools closed in NY and his in person services have stopped. These are MANDATED by Federal Law which he has not gotten since March. He has stopped verbalizing and gone back to biting himself, and others, until he bleeds. A person on a computer will not stop his behaviors. Daughter is at her wits end and does not know what to do. WHEN will LI schools re-open?

All I can say is that it is a big mess. We are going to see our family on LI and to the Reservation this weekend before Cuomo hits us in PA with his ever increasing hit list of states.

There is no Santa Claus, jb. Look out for yourself instead of expecting the government to.

and I'm not claiming to have a vast knowledge on the virus. I base my opinions and statements on facts. Numbers. I feel for those we've lost and their families, but the simple fact of the matter is that 125K dead patients, over a nearly 6 month span, in a Country with 330M people, is not all that much. How many of those people had underlying medical issues? How many of those people were elderly and had weakened immune systems?

If this article doesn't open your eyes, then nothing will: https://nypost.com/2020/04/23/nearly...ndition-study/
Actually scientists care about how it works in the body. It's the kind of information that they can use to identify effective treatments and possible vaccines.

Your article, on the other hand, simply spews statistics without perspective and shows how little we still know about who gets affected and how seriously. I find no solace in knowing many had underlying conditions - does that lessen their value?

News today shows that the US death toll is likely undercounted and may be over 160,000 with new cases having doubled in the last three weeks. These numbers command respect. People are dying at a rate ten times that of those dying in traffic accidents.
Halfway through the year we already have more dead from COVID-19 than a full year of Alzheimer's and probably strokes.

So what?

Right. It is absurd to use the scientific information based on actual experiences to make public health decisions. Instead we should simply do whatever the hell we want to do.

You may be panicking but those making the reopening decisions here are not. There is no "lockdown," there never has been.

The point is they just continue moving the goalposts on this. At this rate we won’t open for 5 years

The goalposts are moving because the transmission of the virus is happening at different rates everywhere depending on what people do to keep it under control; we must keep up with things the way they exist not the way we'd like them to be. This is real life, it's not a fantasy prewritten and etched in stone.

Won't open what for five years? Do you want everything back to normal today while people are contracting the virus at a faster rate than ever? You might as well just throw out the gains we've made and be prepared for surge after surge.

Just wait until the parade formerly called The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. You’ll see floats only approved by Comrade Cuomo, DeBlasio’s SS and BLM. Riding atop the big sleigh will not be the racist old white guy but a properly masked LGBTQ-HGTV supported social justice warrior of color.
