I so wish I could post this cartoon, but I will describe the photo and type in the writing

The photo is Andy Boy sitting with the American and NYS flags in the background

The writing states

"It's 2022 and we have reached phase 144

INSERT ANDY PHOTO

We have reduced social distancing to 5 feet 3 inches
and will now allow apple picking. Gyms will remain closed."

For months, all we were hearing about were the Corona-related deaths, not so much the cases. People got wind that this virus simply is not all that fatal, and now all we've been hearing about are the number of cases. Here in FL, all you hear about is the how the daily test results came back and blew the previous records out of the water for number of confirmed cases. Well yeah, no crap. They've started mass testing, so of course the number of confirmed cases is going to rise. Way more people have this virus than initially thought, and the huge, HUGE majority of them won't have any symptoms at all. Few others will have some unpleasant symptoms akin to the flu. A miniscule number of others will die.

People need to stop acting like testing positive is a death sentence. If you're someone who's susceptible like a child or an elder or someone with an underlying medical issue, take the proper precautions, isolate and do what you need to. If you live or work with someone who's susceptible, take the necessary precautions. For everyone else, we should be able to go on and live our lives. This virus is not a death sentence and this virus is no excuse to be destroying this Country's economy. The left has definitely been milking this for all it's worth in order to crash the economy and make Trump look bad in an election year.

Seriously who’s going to travel to Europe right now regardless. Not to mention we restricted Europeans from 26 countries from traveling here months ago. Yawn.

I don't think it's denial to say that this virus is much, MUCH less serious than originally thought, and that not only have quarantine measures been overboard, but they almost certainly contributed to weeks of rioting that caused billions in damage and who knows how many lost lives. In addition the fear-mongering about this virus has certainly kept people from using health care services when they need to out of fear of catching COVID-19.

We need to significantly relax and reorient quarantine measures to (reasonably) protect at risk populations, but we need to acknowledge the fact that for everyone else life can and should continue pretty much as normal. The media has also been absolutely crazy and irresponsible in the way it has reported on this issue (among others) and they should be held to account.

"We need to all wear masks." No, we really don't. If you are packed into public transit--a subway, an airplane, an aircraft carrier, Dasha Nekrasova's bedroom--then sure, wear a mask, it's a reasonable precaution. But in most places in the country, it's simply not necessary. This isn't the sequel to Contagion, it's a respiratory illness that hits a small percentage of the population hard but for most people doesn't seem to be dangerous at all.

And in any case if you aren't accounting for the damage it is doing due to social and economic disruption, your math stinks and is of no use to anyone. This is largely a media scare and needs to be dealt with as such, not by playing into the paranoia but shaking people out of it.

Oh, the mass testing meme. Has it occurred to you how embarrassingly inept it is to say "they've started mass testing" 4 months after your state's first confirmed case?

Do you realize that New York has done way more tests than Florida in the past 2 weeks, and yet New York still has fewer new cases than Florida?

And lastly, do you realize that the percentage of positive cases in Florida has gone up in the past 2 weeks, while it's gone down in New York?

That is the definition of denial, did you notice what is happening in other states and that we have the most new infections of any country even Brazil and India. The fact that Europe is banning Americans should be a national embarrassment.

We know it's a coronavirus.
We don't care how long coronaviruses in general have been circulating, it's irrelevant.
We don't know if any amount of immunity exists, for how long or how robust it may be.
Counting on herd immunity at this stage is worse than counting on drawing a queen of hearts to fill in a royal flush.

Interesting stuff and that facility was big in AIDS research and reputable. Too bad it's way over the heads of this thread and doesn't feed anyone's passive aggressive Cuomo obsession or mani pedi withdrawal rage.

Counting on Santa Claus to keep the economy going and keep people fed, likewise. As for New York, don't expect much help from Washington. They're stretched and much of the pain is self-inflicted.
