We will be moving to Merrick soon and was wondering if Child care(day care) programs or Kindergarten programs are free in the town of Merrick. Doing some research online and have not come up with any concrete evidences that there programs are free like in Queens. We have a 4 year old that we have enrolled in a child care program here in Queens but when we move we would like to know what our options are.
Any links to appropriate resources are appreciated.!

Pretty sure every town on LI has Kindergarten. Haven't heard of free child care though, I think that's a city thing. People out here send their kids to paid day care if they're not at home. Some districts have paid after care that you can send the kids to in the early AM and/or after the school day ends, that varies from town to town. But it's not free.

Since your kid is 4 I assume you mean UPK, That’s a NYC thing. Some districts do have UPK on LI, most don’t. Commack, HHH, Plainview all offer it at no charge. I would call the school district and ask , it’s probably not offered.

Even if it’s offered in Merrick I can guarantee you it’s to late now. Usually you have to register the January before they start in September.
