Meanwhile my question goes unanswered

First time I've ever heard that Woodmere was surrounded by bad areas.

Far Rockaway not enough for you? How about being in the back yard of the JFK runway? Look a the map for ****s sake.
If you enjoy jet fuel, by all means. Just weak a hat, or do as Jews do.

You're welcome.
Just make sure the rental is legal. Your agent should be able to help you with that. Good luck!

Far Rockaway's at least a 25 minute drive from Woodmere without traffic, it's not close by at all for you to state that Woodmere is surrounded by bad areas.

As far as JFK, it's not going anywhere.

Just because you want to leave NYS doesn't mean you have to ruin it for the ones that do still want to live here. Don't go away mad, just go away.

IDK dude, maybe, like Rosedale? We all have maps, and this very website has demographics available.

Look at the map. The plane traffic and pollution that goes with it alone makes it a dump.
If you like jet fuel, that place is for you.

geting OT, but that's not even remotely true. Either you've never done that drive before, or you're very confused about what's actually "Far Rockaway" and "Woodmere".

It could be 25 minutes by bus, but by car, Central Ave. Far Rockaway to Central Ave. Woodmere, depending on the light timing is about 10 minutes. I'm too lazy to look it up, but they are separated by approximately 3 miles. No one has even mentioned Inwood/Lawrence which is also not a great area. Inwood is very industrial and has a lot of run down houses. Still, I think the OP will be fine in Woodmere if he doesn't mind the noise from JFK, especially in the summer and that noise is all day, not just at night. I would recommend that the OP check out the 2 local parks in the area, North Woodmere Park and Grant Park. They both offer a lot of activities for the residents and their children. Both parks used to offer boating (North Woodmere Park had a sailing program and Grant Park had paddle boats) but these programs have been discontinued. Both parks have playgrounds for the children and North Woodmere Park has a golf course.
