Martinez, who represents the 4th District, had an exchange with the mayor in Albany on Wednesday.
"It was reported that New York City is looking into Nassau Coliseum as a potential housing for our asylum seekers," Martinez said. "Is that part of the New York City plan?"

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakemen told News 12 in a statement, "It would be viewed by the county as a violation of the lease if the Coliseum were used for housing."

Default place your bets

Ladies and Gentlemen, place your bets.

First race, proposed use of Nassau Coliseum for emergency migrant housing.
Opening odds. 1,000,000-1 against. No matter what Mayor Adams thinks, it's a non-starter.

Second race, transfer of Nassau Coliseum lease to Las Vegas style casino developer.
Opening odds. 10-1 against. It's a legitimate long shot.
But odds may change depending on who contributes what to the powers that be. Right now, it looks like a losing bet.

Third race, development of Nassau Coliseum area for mostly high priced condo apartments, with subsidies for a few "affordable" units. IDA's need to weigh in before any final votes by political interests.
Opening odds. Pretty good, depending on how developers play their cards. Nimby sentiments may be outweighed by arguments that we need more housing, including "affordable" housing, and that development will generate needed tax revenues for the County and TOH.

Fourth race, doing nothing because of continued political gridlock.
Opening odds. Your guess is as good as mine. But doesn't bode well for us if the gridlock continues. North Carolina looks pretty attractive in that event.

The Islanders should never have left the Nassau Coliseum but the previous and current owners were in hockey for the real estate rather than winning.

Oh no, not the ILLEGALS again. At this rate, the Illegals will soon outnumber the humans.
First they stole the election, now they're stealing our freedoms.

As soon as Jesus comes down and reinstates trump, this'll all get fixed. #MAGA

So let me get this right. NYC is a sanctuary city by choice. But now they want to send the illegal immigrants they accepted to another County all together. Lol.

You can’t make this ship up. But I don’t expect anything more these days from these clowns.

So is almost every owner in pro sports. They left for an arena that they hold a major stake in, located on land whose owners invited development instead of fighting it for 50 years

Interesting race between 3 and 4. I lean toward 4- nothing happening. But 3 is intriguing... the NIMBY TOH politicians can kill 2 birds with one stone: satiate the governor's push for denser housing while keeping it mostly out of their idyllic, wannabe 1945 Levittown suburbs. Of course, the developer won't hire the right consulting firm and the project will die anyway.

Thanks God we have Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakemen and not Curran.
