I grew up in farmingdale, and still live in the vicinity.
I think it's a quality town.
Nice Main St, as mentioned. Friendly. THere is a great Memorial Day parade every year.
Schools were fine when i went (class '91). I think they still rate OK.

Airport is private, not commercial, and so noise is not an issue.
East Farmingdale gets a bit industrial, but still are plenty of nice blocks.

My one beef: Taxes are high.
Just last week we looked at a decent cape, smallish lot: taxes were $9k+/yr.
but...
Check it out for yourself.

I live not far from Republic in Melville. It's not a noise issue.

East Famingdale is largely commercial-industrial. East Farmingdale north of Conklin Street is zoned to HHH schools, which is an excellent district. You pay more for houses here than in Farmingdale SD, but less than a house with a Melville address.

The only negatives I've heard of are stories about illegal immigrants loitering in the village, and I've really not seen this when I drive through. Schools are OK. They're not the best on LI, but they're not in the "avoid, period" group.

If you are looking at Farmingville

Stay away from Portion rd. The areas up by Bald Hill are nice.
Actually, the portion road section of farmingville west of nicolls is a really nice neighborhood, as is the area behind compare foods north of horseblock. The only really sketchy part of farmingville (which really isn't even that bad) is the neighborhood behind the 7-11 and the firehouse south of horseblock, and certain blocks off of blue point road.

I agree with most of what has been said. Only thing I can add is try and search posts by "LilTownBlues" - he is the foremost authority on Farmingdale and has authored many excellent posts on C-D.

Crooks, I'm glad you have seen the light some time between October 2007 and now!!

Why thank you sean sean sean sean, although I'm hardly an authority. Just a "Dale" resident who enjoys the town and surrounding area.
