I was born and raised in Selden and would never consider buying there. Although some expensive homes have gone up recently, the vast majority of the town is white trash. It was and continues a be a really weird place. People keep very much to themselves. The schools are about as mediocre as mediocre gets. I don't recommend it.

Don't forget it's other nickname, "Mastic in the mountains" and they call Mastic. "Selden by the Sea."

Honestly, I really hated Selden. As my daughter said, the traffic was HORRIBLE. We lived right off of 25. Malls everywhere you went. It was like living in Queens again, off Queens Blvd.

My other complaint was with snow removal. I am not talking about side roads, but Rte. 25. We had a snowstorm that left about 6 inches of snow and Jericho was not plowed. Rte. 25 is a secondary road???? DAYS after the storm, you were still driving in the grooves between the snow other drivers left. The interesting thing is that once you got to around the Smithhaven Mall and further west, the roads were bone dry. They had been completely plowed for days.

I could go on, but never mind. Nope, I didn't like Selden.

Hi, as far as snow removal anywhere in Brookhaven it is the worst, I lived in Selden, Centereach, and Patchogue and the snow removal in all places was terrible.

Its kind of a low budget place. But you will get out of it what ever you put in to it.

Default Selden area

Looking to rent an apartment in the Selden area. Im not sure if I can find an apartment at 1500 a month in Selden or Centereach or elsewhere. I’m looking for a diverse area with hispanics and a kid friendly area. I see on greatschools that north of Selden in Comsewogue district one school had 38% Hispanic but Newfield only had 20%. Also looking into the little league baseball teams in the area. Please get back to me. Thanks

Comsweogue is in Port Jefferson Station. There are quite a few Latinx people there. Another suggestion would be Farmingville (Sachem district)

Your rental expectation is a bit low - for almost anyplace on Long Island. I am not even sure that you will be able to find a basement studio for that price.
