Are there any complexes that you can recommend? I'd need a place that isn't too expensive ($1200 or less for a two bedroom), and from which one could commute to a job in Garden City.

Any first hand reviews from people that have lived there would be great.

I think getting a 2-bedroom for $1200 on LI is a longshot. Good luck though.

Well that is a guideline, more or less. I'd be open to looking at 2BRs for a little more, or 1BRs.

yeah a 1br you could get for $1200. 2br's will probably be $2,000 or more unless you want to live in Roosevelt or something.

Would you want to park your car in the street overnight near those buildings? Cars get broken into ROUTINELY in Freeport, especially in that area.

Would you want to come home late at night or have your wife or sister do so to those buildings?

The school system is hideous and is full of violence, has terrible scores, and full of non-english speakers who are, frankly, more interested in gangs than in learning anything. Funny how when these types start to take over, the schools sink to ridiculous academic depths and rise to unacceptable levels of violence.

To the OP: You should be able to do fine with a 1 bedroom that the landlord pays heat and hot water at that budget in a good neighborhood. The minimum I have seen landlords (and I mean, real landlords not people who fixed up their basement as an illegal apartment) charge for 2 bedrooms is $1600 and the tenant has a separate boiler and hot water heater and pays the utilities (their own heat and hot water in addition to electricity, TV, phone, cable, gas for stove, etc. that tenants of legal apartments pay). Where heat and hot water is included, they go anywhere from high $1700's to low $2000's.
